Default Disappointed

I am absolutely in love with my car. I put every dollar I can into it and spend almost every weekend making sure she's healthy. I've seen 3-4 mazdaspeed 3's here in Simi Valley , but what left me extremely disappointed is that 2 of them sounded like they had no idea what they were driving , one of those two didn't know what year his car was. Then the third one said he's not into cars. The fourth I believe said he didn't know what company his intake was from. Like this all might not be a big deal for many of you , but ms3's are rare cars where I live. So when I see someone driviing one I get ******* excited looking forward to meeting an enthusiast / car addict. But then I talk to them and this is what I get...

In Ann Arbor, I've only had the chance to talk to one other MS owner. His exact words were (about his car) "I don't give a shit about it" and that was all. Ya, I feel the pain.

It's really sad man. The guy who didn't know what year his car was said "my parents got it for me as a Christmas gift". I knew what gen car he had when he had no clue how many gen ms3's there were. I'm 18, work two jobs , pay for this car , gas, insurance , and all my mods. So being young shouldn't really matter.

That happens around me sometimes. Whenever I see a speed I always wave and a lot of the times people just look at me like wtf are you doing.

I have friend's that live there. I am up in Nor-Cal. Santa Cruz to be exact.

I've seen a few MS6's on the road in Santa Cruz but haven't been able to interact with them. There is one down the street from my new place and thinking about knocking on their door to say hi.

The MS3's I see on my commute don't seem to care about what they are driving.

I want to find people off this forum who live in Ventura County so we can maybe meet up or go on a canyon drive.

I've experienced similar in my area. To them, it's not a speed 3. It's just a car to get to work.

Which is the most disappointing thing because our community is so small as it is , and are plagued with people like that.

Within 20 miles of my house (I live in a VERY rural area) I know of 2 other speed6's. Both are stock (it seems) and one modded ms3 with a massive FMIC driven by a kid who seems to know what he has since he gave me a thumbs up when he saw me in my ms6 which isn't really a car people notice unless your a enthusiast. Of course I shot him a back cause that's what we do!

I luckily work with a fellow enthusiast with a Speed6 big turbo, fully built. I've met a few others I feel like I'm pretty lucky where I'm at as far as car enthusiasts go! Although I work at a Chevy dealer and we've got our fair amount of hillbilly diesel truck techs that hate on any car that doesn't shoot out bald eagles

No offense, but what do you expect, it’s Chevy lol. I think a solid 90% of people that wear sleeveless shirts regularly, drink Busch or any other dirt cheap beer equivalent, and still think mullets are in good style and fashion, are rocking a Chevy tattoo somewhere on their body.

None taken! I wouldn't expect anything less lol I just smile and walk on we do a fair amount of shit talking to each other. The one response they never have an answer for is when I ask them what 4 door hatchback does chevy offer that is equal to a speed3?......speechless!

No speeds in my area at all. I've seen 2 speed 3's in the last year once on separate occasions but never seen them again so I'm guessing they were just passing through town. Ive been dying to run into someone local with a speed and hopefully become friends over the cars so we can talk mazdaspeeds and work on our cars together but I guess it's not meant to be lol. I do however literally see and hear at least a few WRX's everyday where I live, those things are everywhere.

I'm in Pasadena. I have a couple of speeds around me. Most seem uninterested in what they drive but there are a couple of modded speed most notably this one dude who has a sleeper juan with built engine and a big turbo. I kind of don't mind the lack of Speed's these days, IMO it makes these car more special. Where I live it's all EVO X's, BMW M's, WRX's, Mustangs it gets tiring.

Hey, they have a turbo hatchback now, the Cruze! LOLOL

Actually I have a regular Cruze for getting to work. At least I only own turbo cars, even if the Cruze is really incredibly boring. Gotta keep the speed around for the drama, moments of terror, and my car wanting to kill me.

Same shit here man! I see WRX's E V E R Y W H E R E . I see at least 3 everyday. Same goes with the 4 cylinder mustangs. It makes us more special tho from the general crowd. But that again is what disappoints me when I see another speed 3 or 6. It's like we're part of a small , dying off family, yet people drive it like it's a Accord or Camry.

Simi Valley is saturated with Hill Billies driving their 10 inch lifted diesels with American Flags mounted in the bed. It's hilarious

The amount of REAL car enthusiasts is super tiny. It is not an easy hobby to get into. Requires hours of learning, buying tools, dealing with fucks ups. I know plenty of dudes that drive performance cars but can barely replace their break pads.

I also know people who replaced motors but would not replace a timing chain or cams for example.

I get excited when I meet someone that really likes to tinker and believes no task is too hard as long as you follow some good instructions. I get annoyed when people talk to me about mods, and then proceed to tell which performance shop did his build (its their money but in reality we don't share same interests). I tinker to learn, not to show off a car.

I really enjoy this forum because it is full of people like myself, that like to tinker and solve issues on their own. In the real world it is nearly impossible to find people like this.

Not a hatchback, but be careful . . .the Chevrolet SS is a 400+ hp 4 door sedan with a manual shift option, Brembo brakes, LS3 engine and 12 second capable. Australian made, based on a Holden Commodore with Bowtie badges. Like our MS3 and MS6, its sort of an under the radar sleeper. Rare, too. Don't see a lot of them. Stock vs. stock, it would clean your clock in the quarter and on a road course.

I almost bought one. But, most of those beer guzzling bubbas wouldn't recognize an SS on the street, even though it's profile is used for Chevy's NASCAR racecars they watch every Sunday.

There's an SS at work. Black and silver. Too bad they're $$$$.

Was stuck in traffic on 485inner next to a Speed3 yesterday. I was looking over, more or less staring at him. Not once did I catch him looking anywhere but dead ahead. WTF is up with people not even checking their surroundings? The topic of this thread aside, you need to pay attention to everything around you.

I definitely know about them, worked on a couple and took care of a couple people with them. I would love to have one as well! For what you get not badly priced either!

FWIW, my "other car" besides this MS3 is a '17 Q5 Quattro Audi SUV. Yup, an SUV. 3.0T engine. For those unacquainted, that is the Eaton supercharger nestled between the heads of the V6. 272 crank hp. Add one bolt-on, a larger 179mm crank pulley to spin the blower faster, and a proper Stage 2 tune from one of several respected tuners, as I did, and it will jump up to 420-430 crank hp and dip down into the high or even mid 12's. 4.5 seconds to 60. Stock engine is seriously detuned. The limiting factor at Stage 2 is the smallish water to air dual chamber intercooler built into the blower. It heat soaks quickly on back to back WOT pulls. But, now I understand how MS6s launch so hard - full time four wheel drive.

The MS3 is still my fun car, my bad ass hooligan that makes me grin.

Hey I got a 2016 VW Tiguan 4motion as my other car, a small CUV.
But about those audis there's "stage 2" B8 S4's running low 11's on bolt ons. Thinking a S4 for my next daily and modify the Speed6.
At that time I should have my certifications...
I will always have a soft spot for VW/Audi group, as well as the Mazda speed vehicles.

I'm lucky. Grew up as a kid in an engine rebuilding company and performance shop owned by my family. We still do. I was boring blocks, doing valve jobs, milling heads and grinding cranks, doing short block assemblies after school before going off to college. I was taught to do all my own maintenance and to never let a dealer shop touch my car unless it was a true "died on the road" warranty claim.

My MS3, bought new by me, has seen the dealer only once. It was for the VVT and timing chain recall. No one else has ever even done an oil change but me. FYI I am an old fart, age 67, who always seems to have little grease under my nails and still likes fast cars and hot girls, or is it hot cars and fast girls?

Not only are we losing enthusiasts, but no one wants to know how to even change spark plugs.

I do that in traffic from time to time if I've got something big coming up. Sometimes I'm mentally going over work to do on the car, project on the house, work, etc. I get the 1000-yard stare while I picture the fun stuff in my head. And since I'm creeping along I'm not worried about hitting anything.

Happened again today. Saw a fellow pu on the highway, sped up to him and got behind him, no response. Got to the side of him and still no response out of him.

For the $ they are nice, nice interiors and long lasting bodies and frames for us who live in the great white north where salt is spread on the roads. My brother had a b5 a4 2.8 S-line years ago that went 210k miles with no failures, just routine maintenance. He regrets selling that car every day. Wasn't fast, but it was really solid and decently quick for what it was. Plus VW/Audi 6 cylinders sound amazing with a proper exhaust, from rumble to howl as you wind it up, to pops and cracks and spitting flames when you let off lol

Lots of Speeds around Phoenix area, but I know them only on Facebook....my fault because I work on weekends (I’m a Pastor) and all of the events, including autoX and track days, seem to happen on Sunday mornings.

I almost bought one. But, most of those beer guzzling bubbas wouldn't recognize an SS on the street, even though it's profile is used for Chevy's NASCAR racecars they watch every Sunday.
***This isn't a smart-ass question***

I'm new to the forum and read the Hall of Shame threads on SURE Motorsports.

Is your RMM holding up well? The pics and stories I've seen here about their motor mounts is haunting.

Understood. I am one of the few that got a Sure RMM that did not self destruct or worse. Bought it probably 9 years ago as one of my first mods. Dumb luck, I guess. Quality control must have been ok for awhile, then it tanked. I do NOT recommend that company today for anything. I kept checking it alot after the horror stories emerged. It's remained strong and solid, so I'm still running it.

My view is that the bad ones failed early. Those that held together are fine long term. No way to tell the difference. Stay away from them. I probably should take it out of my sig so no one is misled.
