Default *Epic Fail* Mis-shifted from 3rd to 2nd

Did a friendly run with my friends stage1 ms6 against my stage2 ms6. To keep it short, I mis-shifted from top of 3rd at almost 6k to 2nd and saw my shit bounce to 8K!!!! The engine felt alright after that scary moment, but I just want to know if this is serious, and what can potentially go wrong. Thanks

*update*
This might be the stupidest shit ever, but heres a video.

Since the engine is still running good after that. I just want to know what can potentially go wrong, so maybe i can replace a part to prevent it from messing something else up further down the line.

Meh, you weren't hanging around at 8000 for very long, but usually you'd want to get back on the clutch a little quicker when you feel yourself being thrown forward like that. Don't make it a habit.
I know purpose built track cars that downshift at about 7000 rpm commonly and a race with valves that a few thou longer than when they started, but I think you'll be fine just this once.

The engine has a rev limiter for a reason. So, technically you can redline it and be ok. Is it smart? No, the car makes no power up there, so whats the point. Stress to the driveline is probably the biggest worry. There's no part to add or replace to prevent that. If something is damaged you wont know until it rears its head.

imho, this car does not like to be shifted really fast. Smooth, slightly quick shift movements seem to give the fastest time. Its easy to out shift this cars response. Focus on that and you'll be quicker and not miss shifts.

How many miles on the motor? How often to you bounce of the rev limited? OTS stage2 map? If anything is damaged then you will find out during more pulls and driving aggressively. But, I am with Lenny on this, it happened, nothing you can do now.

If you're really worried, drain the oil and look for pretty shiny glitter in the oil. If you see any, it's prolly from the camshaft. The lobes are made from generally "soft" metal and are the first thing to wear after this type of o-$hit event. Listen for more than normal valvetrain noice (ticking). Otherwise you are I'd say you are g2g....minus your ego.

Your getting your mechanical limits confused with your ecu limits

The revlimiter stops you from going above a certain point if you were accelerating towards it.

If you put the car into a gear that puts it outside of safe operating range it was meant for the revlimiter kicks only cause your passed that threshold not cause it's actually stopping you from going past it anymore. And if that makes no sense....

Cliffs:

Revlimiters don't save shit on miss shifts.

Same deal with cars it's like an episode of days of our lives.

Piston meets valve

Valve kisses piston

Piston slaps valve

Valve is bent out of shape over the encounter and piston is scored.....

let me say it again....u cannot do shit about it why worry.

u overspin a motor its like flipping a coin...u can have a number of issues..from spun bearings to rod bolts stretched out....

the real answer would be to tear the motor and inspect....but...unrealistic...

so let me go back to the original advice i have u....

dont worry about it

imho, this car does not like to be shifted really fast. Smooth, slightly quick shift movements seem to give the fastest time. Its easy to out shift this cars response. Focus on that and you'll be quicker and not miss shifts.
Did you even read what happened?
The rev limited only cuts fuel.
If the car is at redline in 3rd and all of a sudden drops to second, do you really think the engine is only gonna spin at redline(7200)?!

your car is 100% fine I guarantee it....

Seriously how did you do that though?

Pull straight back
I've been with buddies who have went 1st 2nd 1st, and personally I'd be more worried about the transmission than the engine when doing that.

Yeah, the car seems fine. Drove it all day today and still runs like a champ. I failed super bad, i have no clue how i shifted from 3rd to 2nd, usually shifting from 3rd to 4th is my favorite gear change, but i guess i just failed super hard this time.

Check for clutch vibrations and weird noises or exhaust smoke. If nothing like that, keep on driving. If you feel those (esp the vibes in the clutch) stop the engine immediately or you risk a vented block.

This is true. I apparently over looked that he was coming from a higher gear at redline.

i did that in my ms3 once. and it is VERY common on s2000's.

First thing that would happen would be you'd float a valve, and it'd smack a piston.

you could do a compression test. likely, if your running ok now, everything is fine. it only happened once on my ms3, and it was ok.

It's definitely a scary feeling. Had a similar thing happen to myself a few years ago.

Slowing down for a corner, about 2k in 4th and went to shift into 3rd. Heel toe and made it into 1st instead. Started to let the clutch out and knew it wasn't right when I could feel the car slowing. Clutch in and used 3rd. Thankfully only saw 3k-3500. Only damage was some clutch slippage and feeling like an idiot.
