make sure you open the little window thing to let some air in. right by the drivers side headlight, theres a port that is covered on the speeds. its open on regular mazda3s, but it easily comes out. people also take their weather stripping off.

you can also open that vent even further with a little fabbing and cutting and make something to guide the air into it

Are you referring to the front tow hook cover?

He's talking about this vent. I took it one step further and drilled it out!

I went out and checked for this opening and couldn't find it. Then I came back on the computer only to re-read the top of the page and see it's for a genjuan.

Blame the genpu driver

Isn't that closed off on the Speeds to force the air though the hood vent and into the TMIC?

There's an easy way to vent your hood if you like. Put a tank of diesel in, and watch the spark plugs blow out through your hood. I watched this happen on an engine-dyno for an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish engine back when I worked at Ford.

It strikes me that you might be able to open/remove up the plastic shroud at the back of the hood near the windshield and be able to duct air through the engine bay without cutting expensive holes in the hood (or elsewhere).

i believe that begins to mess with those vents that are there though. if i understand correctly, that plastic lip looking thing actually keeps hot air from under the hood from entering inside the car when you turn just the fan on. ( not ac )

You may well be correct. The other thing that the plastic shroud may do is direct air down and along the DP/Exhaust manifold and then underneath the car. This would have the dual function of providing some cooling to the Turbo/DP/Exhaust mani, AND increasing airflow under the car, providing a modicum of downforce and reducing engine-bay air pressure and stagnation. If that's the case, you might see a noticeable rise in EGT (if you have a sensor), and you might see fuel economy fall off because of the less-efficient aero.

i seem to remember someone talking about cutting vents near the back of the hood, and using chicken wire or something like that....dont know if that ever got off the ground or not though. a guy on 247 added a subbie scoop, but he had some pretty good fiberglass skillz.

You could always replace the thermostat with a bad one. When mine went out, I was running ~165* no matter what the outside temp was, and it would only ever creep up to about 180*, even when it was hot as balls in the summer.

replace with a bad one?..if you're gonna do that you might as well run without one at all..i've done that once..i guess as long as ya put one back in once Fall and cooler temps arrive u could get away with that

yeah, links to cool vents would be nice. i got no problem cutting the hood ans long as i got something cool to put in the hole.

i just want to let some air out and get some fresh air to intake!

mabey a vent in rear of hood to let the hot ass air out. and some type of inverted scoop (small in size sort of) over the intake sounds like coolness....

thoughts?

If anything, you should go FMIC, full belly pan up front, lip to separate airflow and then open the cowl up to let the incoming air up front to go up and out. You could even go so far as to mount your fmic on an angle to direct air up.

I always thought it would be interesting if someone fab'd up a cowled hood that looked almost stock for use with fmic and/or bt.

The genwons already have that raised bit in the center of the hood. You could have that bit look like stock in the front portion then slowly raise to like a 1" to 1 1/2" cowl in the back. Would help vent air at least. Might look retarded or melt something around the bottom of the windshield, but then it might not..

after doing a lil research, seems prolly the best thing for me anyways is to put two 8x8 inch hood louvers in the rear of the hood.
the louvers have proven them selfs to vent out hot air very well.

thanks for the links, JEEP PARTS | JEEP ACCESSORIES | JEEP BUMPERS | Hood Louvers

i cut two 6inch holes in hood. with a 6 in hole saw. uniform with each other. i havent ordered the hood louvers yet, but i will be. done some other changes i needed to get done. like redo my DP and i had my twin gates piped together witch i didnt like and also may have something to do with the surge i was getting.
so im looking at running two pipes out instead of one. just no room to run 2 off them around the DP and down. so..................
