When correctly venting a hood you have to have balls lol

I just kept cutting until I liked it....and trust me you can tell its working very easily. Just watch the heat rise or put your hand over it. Its ridiculous how much hot air comes out of that vent! And soon ill have the entire back porition of the engine bay blocked off with a heat treated fiberglass barrier with only a connection to the hood vent so all of the turbo/exhaust heat stays contained in the back away from my IC piping and gets released out the vent through suction effect while driving. Ill post more once the setup is complete.

I made it myself just drew a template i liked in some design software and cut it out on my cad table, then traced it on the hood and cut. then lined the edges with rubber molding and plastidiped a screen for the mesh on top.

I had a thread about it a long time ago but it was delete for some reason.... if i have time ill write it up again

Hasn't anyone considered the factory airflow pattern of this car? In the front, out the rear bottom........are you going to do some panels to direct air in the path you want it to take now?

My vent flows perfectly out the top I had attached tape and string to make sure the flow was correct. The flow against the windshield pulls air out of the vent when moving and allows air to vent naturally (heat rises) out the vent in traffic or at stops. Also since the air is being pushed in through the front air dams thats naturally where it will then escape. I have under hood temp readings i did last year when I did the mod and the drop, Ill have to find it

after you mentioning it in the other thread i took a look and youre right, but that doesnt allow for as much heat to escape that way. now with underbody panels channeling air to a rear diffuser or another method to increase airflow in that direction, that would be the ideal method for airflow. however, at this point venting through the hood area shows marked decreases in underhood heat, and you cant argue with results.

also when you add a FMIC it changes alot of the factory air flow values. i know that venting my hood helped alot with temps. even though im not done with it.

I've been thinking about doing some naca ducts maybe one or two in my hood, and in carbon fiber for some street cred haha. I think this would be the easiest and probably look the best without needing to paint. Would compliment doing @PapaSmurf 's mod of using hood spacers to get that higher pressure air out.

I like the idea of the vent right on top of the turbo area. What the E46 M3 has also looks similar.

BMW E46 M3 S54 3.2L > Exterior > View All > ES#77805 Hood Vent - 51132694723

this place has those vents for 22.38 btw if anyone wants to give it a try and upload pics (:

I'd just like to know if it had any kind of rain guard stock too

The rain guard is it evaporating the second it hits your turbo / manifold haha.

I would love to make some sort of little box or enclosure around the turbo / manifold and use this to evacuate the heat. Maybe add some ducting from under the car from the fog lights or something to feed the enclosure and further evacuate the heat ... I think a vent behind the gen 2 hood scoop would look really stupid, but man is it tempting.

Well I had my sister photoshop this up real quick, granted the scale of the pics may be off, but that E46 vent may almost be too small. Anyone else want to take a crack at this?

i like it. i wouldnt make it so wide that it would be over the alternator unless you fashion a rain guard.

Looks like an '08+ Shelby GT500 scoop would work quite well on an MS6 and theyre fairly cheap. A lot of fox body and sn95 guys are using them on their road race cars.

Doing this is going to disrupt the cooling airflow designed by the engineers. Air flows in the top and out the rear bottom of the engine bay. You open up another hole and you'll increase turbulence and slow down the airflow allowing less heat to escape.

Wanna understand more? look at a Ferrari and find info on how the vents and stuff are designed. Sure, we're not a Ferrari, but the airflow was designed in such a manner from the factory to move air through the engine bay, not just let air in or out at any old place.

I feel the same way, I wouldn't want my hood to start looking like those SRT4's that stick on their equivilant of shaker hoods.

I'd also be concerned with airflow and negative pressure areas and such, I don't understand it too well. I know I wouldn't mind if the K04 was cooler though.

my tmic and vents ar off my car. the area where the ducting was is blocked off now so the only air entering my engine compartment come through the fmic and radiator.
i almost never do any highway driving.

sitting in stop and go traffic or in the staging lanes at the track, this is the only way to get heat out, and there's alot.

do alot of ferraris have turbos? idk, i dont read up on exotic cars much.
i can understand not wanting to cut up your car, thats why i bought a hood to f up and keep my stocker for winter.
...if you could see the heat pouring out, you may understand.

Yes, our hoods/bays are designed to flow air through the car a certian way. but think, the second you add even so much as intake, let alone a FMIC you completely change the dynamics of the car. Air pockets will get created and you need to find ways to cure this problem. I've been messin with paper models since before I pulled the motor in my car, there's defiantly better ways to vent/flow air through the bay than the OEM options once you start doing any heavy modding.

Wanna understand more? look at a Ferrari and find info on how the vents and stuff are designed. Sure, we're not a Ferrari, but the airflow was designed in such a manner from the factory to move air through the engine bay, not just let air in or out at any old place.
People keep saying this, but I see more evidence of the contrary in threads like this and my own personal results. My intake temps dropped 20°-30° when I pulled the weather stripping. I think there is more air entering the engine bay through the radiator than can exit the engine bay through the stock air route.

This is in central CA, 98 degrees outside.

These mods:

1. Water wetter and distilled. No green shit.

2. Reroute passenger side duct down to radiator:
Make this:
Attach here:
Looks like:

3. dam up the driver side hood duct to only dump on the intake and battery. Cant get a good pic inside. The red marks the location of the dam inside the duct. The blue is a hole cut in the duct right above the SRI. This should be caulked when done to really trap air in the scoop.

The engine bay has proper ducting and louvres underneath to circulate the air while moving. Sitting still... not much you can do... period. The water wetter stuff helps a little. And being cooler when you get to the stoplight... takes longer for heat to climb up to bad temps

Next I'm working on ducts placed to the sides of the fmic to keep it all through the IC and AC and radiator. Too much gets pushed out to the empty areas in front of the wheels.

Of all the military achievements I've accomplished my first 10 years of service (made MSGT/E-7 at age 29), the one that makes me most proud is simply being able to serve my country during her darkest hour...NEVER FORGET those who made the ultimate sacrifice doing the same....I SALUTE ALL OUR FALLEN

just the rear at first, but i pulled the ducting and front stripping eventually and saw an additional small gain.
