Default I've got an oil question.

I want to switch to the rotella t6 5w40, but I cannot find it in one litre jugs. Could I mix the .25 litres remaining after the 5L jug goes in, with another high quality synthetic of the same weight? Or should I just invest in two jugs for the change over and then use the second jug for topping off and every subsequent oil change?

Fine! That's almost $90 bucks for that initial change over just in oil, and I'm a cheap fuck. Not Jew cheap or Dutch cheap, but cheap. But whateves. It'll get used eventually.
Anyone one use the fram filter cartridge? I've just been getting the Mazda replacements so far.

Don't use fram. Spend the 3$ more on Mazda

A guy from Mazda told me that when you use an aftermarket filter, they are usually longer in length. He said when you tighten the caps on, it actually twist the filter and can cause flow restriction. Caused a motor to sieze and needed to be rebuilt... Not sure how much of that is true... I think they are just trying to make a sale. I ran fram filters in my mazda 6i for 100k miles with no issues.

Sorry for thread jack OP.

That's some bulshit. Just make sure the new one is the right size. I've been using either Mobil1 or Purolator PureOne. 81k miles sez I'm doing something right.

All the filters are about the same. Have no problem with aftermarket filters jsut be smart with how much you tighten it. also Use the Damn oil Quick being cheap.

i used a fram filter and it was just fine, cartridge filters are all basically the same.

if you buy your rotella at walmart they usually have 1qt bottles of it next to the 4qt ones, but i just buy (2) 4qt bottles and then the next time I only need to buy 1 bottle and so the trend continues.

I've used Fram filters and yesterday did my 14th oil change. Never came out twisted, unlike the owner.

OP, buy the oil and stop thinking like a Canuck....oh wait, nevermind.

I looked at Canadian tire, partsource, and walmart. All of which only have the 5L bottles. No problem. I'll get two the first time. Then I'll always use the older bottle at home to do the fill, and the new bottle for top up.

we have the gallon jugs at walmart, but they only sell fram and motorcraft filters. i end up going to advance for a big spin-on purolator pureone.

I don't think you'll find the quart bottles anywhere in Ontario... I've checked out any place that I can think of that sells oil and you're stuck getting a pair of the bigger ones. Just hit up a Wallyworld in Barfalo next time you're in the area and pick up a few single quarts. Hell, get all the oil in the US, its considerably cheaper.
