My clutch is fused to the FLYWHEEL!

So, upon starting my car for the first time after the rebuild, the brand new Fidanza flywheel + brand new Luk OEM clutch disk have somehow managed to fuse together. It engaged and disengaged at first, then I backed it out of the garage, when I went to put it into 1st, the clutch no longer disengaged.
(even installed a brand new clutch master cylinder)

Check that the slave is actually moving the clutch fork. You may have air in the system.

I can't check that, the transmission isn't even on the car =P
and, as seen in the pic, I can't get the clutch disk off the flywheel, its like its welded on there, and I don't want to put too much force on it, I can feel it coming apart when I pull on it by hand

Is that damage on the clutch disk? The only thing I can think of, but can't see in the picture is, are you sure it's not on backwards. Should say something like this side facing flywheel....

Are you sure they gave you the correct, matched parts? looks like the clutch disc could be wedged in the relief of the flywheel.

There is no damage to the clutch disk, if you're referring to the mark on the top left of it, those are stamped white letters from the factory, I'd suppose some sort of manufacturing lettering. But, it is installed in the correct orientation (GETRIEBESEITE = Gearbox Side), so it's not jammed "inside" the flywheel at all. Even if it were installed backwards, the Fidanza flywheel allows it to be installed either way, because there is a large empty area in its center, unlike the stock flywheel, so that isn't the issue.

I will take a better pic of it tomorrow (daylight) to show it's installed correctly =)

I will attempt to take the clutch disk off the flywheel tomorrow and report back.

Some discs literally have a stamp to identify which side is suppose to go on the flywheel. Not all will specifically say it, like this one, but they generally have some sort of reference.

Well I hate to state the obvious here, but you're going to have to find a way to brute force the disc off of there to figure out what went wrong. It could be a defect with the flywheel or clutch disc. We don't know.

like I said, it doesn't matter which way you install it with a Fidanza flywheel, it's center cavity is deep and wide enough to clear the clutch either way you install it, though I DID install it facing the correct way, as seen in the pic :wink1:

Seems like you forgot to clean the flywheel before installing. I know some companies but on some grease/light film of oil to prevent rusting. Or you may be having the same problem this guy ran into on his thread:

I would push and pull on the disc hub, while feeling for ANY movement of the hub on the spline.

if you can feel slight motion there, then you have some super odd adhesive effect between the friction matl, and the surface of the flywheel. I would try a liberal brakleen shot, etc


If there is no movement, and you can gently slide a thin blade knife between the disc and flywheel, then you have stuck the splines on the input shaft.

try to rig a puller onto the hub someway, and pull it off that way.
grab the hub as clos to the center as possible, and resign yourself to getting a new disc anyway, proly has a mismachined spline."



Looks like "A" was the issue

My mechanic had the same issue. He cleaned off the green stuff and is about to put everything back together. Did that solve your issue?

Yes, I cleaned all the green off mine, and thoroughly scrubbed both surfaces with a scratchpad and brakeclean, works normally now =)

I'm not on here often but for people who have their clutch fuzed (like me) and everything in together, wrangle some buddies to push start your rig in 1st (on concrete) get going 15 miles per and throw your clutch in and slam the brakes. Do it a couple times and the engine should pop that bitch loose. Low key sketch but it does work. !break in your clutch right after so it doesn't re stick!!!!!
