Someone posted this on another forum. Personally, I don't see the problem of having some unburnt fuel other than maybe damaging sensors but even that is questionable. Is this even a valid gripe? I just don't know enough about the DISI nuances yet...

Raw fuel being dumped into the engine with no ignition? No thank you.

I like my engine and for that reason you couldn't pay me to install one of these hack boxes.

It's bad for catalitic converters, but that's it. This is something that's going to give most benefits to drag racers. Most drag racers get rid of the cats.

Would this work on Mazdaspeed 6 assuming hooked to the right wires on the ECU?

No problems WOT shifting here, though I DO see the benefits of cutting power instead of increasing......make shifts easier on your car if you miss a gear. As far as the Launch control though, say I set it at about 2300rpm (best for the track IMHO) and pin the throttle. Then, as I feather the clutch to roll off the line, will the power come on AS SOON as I even move the clutch off of the floor, or when it is fully disengauged? Also, will it work if I use only about 3/4 throttle instead of pinning it? It takes quite a bit of finesse to get a FWD car off of the line without blowing the tires off in first and second. Basically, can I still "roll" into the throttle for an optimum launch just like normal, but just have the nice little RPM cut off so I can go 3/4 throttle without having to watch and adjust my rpm so much while awaiting the light. I can hit a 2.0 on street tires and I bet if this thing works like I hope it does, I can see a 1.9 in my future Just let me know ASAP so I still have time to jump in on this GB.

OH! I almost forgot! WELCOME N2MB!!!!!!!!!! You guys rock! I got my Boomba MM from you guys! Now if you could just talk some other SRT-4 loving companies (like boomba or AGP....) to jump onto the MS3 bandwagon, we'll be set!

We always get these comments, so I will add this to the FAQ.

Here is the thing. Every after market part comes with some extra risk of damage or some additional wear and tear on your car. It has to be that way. If there was a way to get free extra performance out of your car, the engineers would have done it already. They are pretty smart.

However, the techniques in our WOT Box are well known and well utilized, on many vehicles safely. For example, nearly all modern after market ECUs come with some form of WOT shifting, or as is sometimes called, "no lift to shift".

An even better example of the relative safety of this mod is that some cars are even shipping now with it as a stock feature! For example, the EVO9 has a 2-step launch control and the Chevy HHR has a 2-step launch control and no lift to shift! So, if Chevy is willing to send their cars out of the factory with it stock, they must be convinced it is a reasonable thing to do.

This is not to be confused with anti-lag, which is a system that actually forces fresh air into the exhaust to cause ignition before the turbo to keep the turbo spooled. While this does an excellent job of keeping the turbo spooled (better than no lift to shift), it causes much more wear and tear on the turbo. Here is more reading on anti-lag:
Anti-Lag System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To play devil's advocate, let's break down the risks involved in using the WOT Box. To start, the WOT Shift feature. I believe it causes very little additional wear and tear on the car, mainly because the amount of time that the ignition is cut is very short. It may be as low as 100 ms, which is only a few rotations of the engine at the RPMs we are shifting at. Plus, the ignition comes back on quickly and evacuates the unburnt fuel from the exhaust. Sometimes there may be a small audible pop as the unburnt fuel ignites in the exhaust. If done enough times back to back, this potentially could heat up a stock cat and cause it to fail, but it would be hard to imagine a situation where you could WOT shift that many times.

On the other hand, the 2-step carries a slightly higher risk of damage to your engine, mainly to the catalytic converter. This time you are forcing less unburnt fuel into the exhaust (because the engine is still firing some of the cylinders), but you are typically doing it for a longer time. The key here is not to use the 2-step for too long and not too often. It is not a toy to make noise in the parking lot. It is meant to be used briefly before a launch at the track and then given the appropriate time after your run to allow the cat to cool. If you were to get on the 2-step and hold it for several minutes, you would probably overheat your cat and destroy it. During the development of the 2-step, we did actually destroy Jay's catalytic converter. However, that was after HOURS of repeated back-to-back 2-step testing.

In conclusion, when used judiciously, these features should increase performance with minimal additional wear and tear on your engine and catalytic converter. Used inappropriately, they can cause damage. However, this is the case with all mods and drag racing in general.

So, be educated about your decisions and the level of risk you are willing to take with your car.

Ideally, you would use this product without a catalytic converter on the drag strip only. That being said, my personal car has a catalytic converter and has gone through tons of repeated testing of the 2-step and come out OK. Your mileage may vary.

I think to really get the benefits of the 2-step launch, you'll need to launch on slicks. Jay's shop car used it to launch at 21 psi.... But, most people won't be able to do that.

The 2-step disables as soon as the clutch is almost completely up or if you let off the throttle. When I felt it out it was a bit less than 1" of travel on the clutch from top. This is because we use the clutch up switch instead of the clutch interlock switch. You'll be able to try it for yourself by following our troubleshooting procedure with the car off. By watching the LED on the box you'll get an idea where it engages.

Right now the throttle trigger is set somewhere above 85%, I would guess. If you needed it, I could send you a custom software load that would lower that threshold. We have toyed with the idea of doing something to make part throttle shifts a little easier as well, but I don't know exactly how that would work. That is something we can try out, since I can just make firmware loads and post them on our website for everyone to try.

I almost forgot too... Thanks the welcome. If you have ideas for new electronic products for the MS3 and MS6, just shoot us an email or PM. We're a little busy right now, but come this fall things should slow down and we'll go back into the lab to develop new products for next season...

Yes, it should, I just need to verify that the MS6 has the same crank trigger wheel. We should be able to do that this weekend.

So many options... :-)
hmmm... sounds like an interesting option indeed! I'll be in for the MS6 version once available - most likely just for the 2-step, but it would be interesting to try out the flat-shifting feature and make up my mind at that point.

Do you know for a fact that if wired correctly this will work on a Non-Speed 3 with the L3 engine? I'm willing to take the chance and if it doesn't work I'm sure I can sell it for what I paid.

Paid in full! WOT shift and 2 step.

How are you keeping track of who has paid? As in... how are you linking email addresses to screen names? Did I miss that box when I was paying? I was a bit anxious... I think I wet myself a little.

ok another question i thought of.............
with the 2 step, will it mess up my ability to do hard downshifts ?? ou said the 2 step activates if the clutch goes down first, thats why i ask.
if i am cruising in 6nd gear and some stroke in a chevy wants to toy with me on the highway, my natural reaction it to .....clutch in, DROP 2 GEARS, go WOT and quickly release the clutch. if what you said is true and the 2 step was set to say 3000rpm i would not be able to downshift well. to do a good high performance downshift you need to press the clutch and bring the revs up before releasing the clutch in the lower gear. would the 2 step interfere ??

I do have the wiring for the L3 engine, so I think I could come up with a wiring diagram for you. The WOT Shift feature is very likely to work. It has worked on nearly everything we have put it on without modification.

However, the 2-step might not work if the crank trigger wheel is different. We could try it and find out. If it doesn't work, you can just send it back and I will refund your money.

Hmm. There was supposed to be a box, but it isn't obvious. I should put a page at the end that asks you again for it....

Everyone who isn't on the list yet, please PM me your name so I can match up your transaction with your SN.

Not that I have to worry about it w/awd, but are the ms3 guys still going to be able to do a burnout w/ the 2 step?

when you pull up the e-brake and let off the clutch a little until you feel it kinda grip then you hold until you launch then drop the e-brake and go

edit....yea what about us doing burnouts?

The sounds kind of bad on the clutch, no?

I'd have to ask the SRT guys, but I think they can do burnouts without the 2-step activating. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with it activating at the wrong time yet, but I imagine it is possible.

For the burnout, you could also just tap the button on the WOT Box. If you push the button, the LED will go out and the WOT Box will be disabled. Then you can do whatever you like and it will not interfere. If you tap the button again, it will turn on. It will also start up turned on again when you restart the car.

I haven't finalized it yet, but there will be a way to wire up a remote LED and button to the serial port, if you don't want to have to open up your glove box to control the WOT Box.

He said it was order dependent, so maybe 50% throttle, then clutch, shift and 100% throttle.

Edit: Or what he said :/

Ok, I updated the list. For the people who I didn't have their SN, I chopped the first two characters off the first part of their email address and posted that. I also removed the domain name so there should be 0 chance you'll get spam. If you PM me what slot you are in on the list, I'll replace it with your SN.

You can wire in a button that will toggle the WOT Box on and off. If you hold it down for more than 2 seconds it triggers the programming mode.

Cool, I already have a toggle and a push button installed from my intercooler sprayer that I took out. I left the switches there.

The upgrade will be the regular price, $149. That includes shipping both ways.
