| Not Ranked : 0 score Okay, so I read the entire thread (albeit quickly) and want to know if anyone has any data on which DPs perform better/easier to tune/etc. than others. The easier to tune part would be a question for Lex, Justin, Rob, etc. but I'm not going to bother tagging them for something I assume isn't that noticeable of a difference. I know there are a few ricers on here that have changed DPs for "sound quality" or some shit. I was hoping they would know if one allowed them to get more power than another. For instance, from the pics online I'm thinking the Cobb DP has a smoother flow through the bell housing than the CPE, but I don't know. If anybody has any data, I for one would love to hear about it.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I don't mind asking "dumb" questions, I'm trying to learn. I've only seen people get flamed when they ask a question that has been answered many times over, something about "stance", etc. This being the official DP thread I figured it would have the info and did a few google searches as well, but to no avail. If you searched, don't be afraid to ask.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Got my Ebay DP ( this one Mazda 6 MPS Full Length Race Down Pipe Exhaust | eBay ), and it's really rubbish. Poor weldings, flange was distorted, elbow is really shitty done, vband snapped, bolts you get with this shit is 4.8, do not put that. Have spend another 150$ to get this fucking DP done in the way like it should came from factory. Have redone all weldings, grinded elbow and new flange...

| Not Ranked : 0 score Some people get luck with the eBay downpipes, some don't. They're cheap, but at the same time, they're just bent pipe. Fitment issues aside, I'm willing to bet there are no real power differences with any of the 3" downpipes. (catalytic converters omitted) From my research, I wouldn't suggest a divorced downpipe with a smaller diameter main stream like CorkSport's for any turbo bigger than a BNRS3, but there's no real testing that's been done on this. Unless you're shooting for way over 500hp, I wouldn't put much thought into it, just run any bell mouth downpipe and you'll be good.

| Not Ranked : 0 score For the sake of learning, I'd argue a 3" pipe != a 3" pipe. Depending on material composition, thickness, etc. one pipe may keep exhaust gases hotter than another (Ebay pipes are notoriously thin from what I hear), essentially providing it's own heat wrap. The bell mouth is going to play a big role in how well the gases flow and are collected. Angle of bends, etc play a part as well. If a DP was a DP, then we would all be rocking the $100 Ebay pipes. This thread is great because it gives us some info on different DPs, designs and prices, but as a performance oriented website we should be able to have/get some data on which ones perform as advertised.

Can't agree more. My damn budget really sucks, thats the only reason I went to Ebay DP instead prowen one, but will go someday for sure on something better. Cheap stuff usually cost more soon or later.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Something I've seen popping up with eBay downpipes is that the flange that bolts to the turbo isn't perfectly flat, so it won't seal when you bolt it down. Just something else to consider when going about your purchases |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I just ordered a dp from ebay and I have my fingers crossed. I'm also going to add a hi-flow metal cat. CPE and CS use cats with 200 cell count I believe. I'm thinking of going cat with 300-400 cell count because I want reduced noise and no cel, but still be high flowing. Either way it'll flow much better than stock, but i'm wondering how much of a difference is there between 200 and 400 cell count as far as performance and sound. Or just stick with a 200 cell count high flow metallic core cat? Am i over thinking this?

Someone's already done this custom catted dp and it looks pretty simple so i'm giving it a shot. Just need to find a legit place to get it done well. If this wasn't my dd i'd definitely not add a cat, but I go everywhere with this car and I don't want to have a loud car everywhere i go. This is a pretty high-flowing cat so I hope it can keep the noise down and still flow well to make good hp.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I originally thought it was just barely hitting and I could pull it off when I got home (I didn't put it on at home) and hammer in that area a bit. Anyway the bolts from the driveshaft flange were contacting it. I'm not exactly happy about it but nothing is damaged and I've got the situation figured out. Still never buying ebay parts again.

| Not Ranked : 0 score This is typical cheap Chinese garbage. They definitely got the fitment wrong. I still don't get why anyone would support buying anything from those copycats. Shit like this is the reason why some companies want nothing to do with certain parts, they put all the work into designing, testing and manufacturing parts, only to have some shithead Chinese company come along and copy it. Then people buy this shit to save what? $40? $100? Fuck that, you will NEVER find that kind of garbage on my build ever.

making a dp isnt rocket science. you bend some pipe in the general shape of the stock piece, then massage it till its close and jig it up. every company makes a duck now and then. doesnt make them shit

| Not Ranked : 0 score I disagree, it's not just a bent pipe. It's a pipe of a certain quality of steel that will withstand the heatcycles of the exhaust. It's a pipe that needs to be properly and cleanly welded. It's a pipe with a caste bell mouth that needs to be flush with the surface of the turbo flange, as well as provide clearance for the internal wastegate flap. It's a pipe that needs to have the O2 sensors positioned correctly to get the most accurate values. It's a pipe that needs to be fitted and sitting well on the hangers so as to not make contact with other parts of the exhaust system, it also preferably would have a well positioned flex pipe to enable some movement. It's a pipe that needs to mate well with either the stock exhaust system or and aftermarket exhaust. This isn't just a downpipe thing, plenty of other inferior quality products are copied by the Chinese and sold on Ebay. Some with varying degrees of quality. That said, they certainly never innovated, researched, designed or released the first version of that product and they profit off the backs of the companies who do. If we as enthusiasts keep supporting these assholes, then what motivation do the actual original companies have to create new products? It drives the price up for the good stuff, and it holds back the platform. So I stand by my statement, I will never trust a piece of shit Chinese copy product to be a part of the crucial parts of my car.
