(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Try and start the car and no go. Have the flashing key security light thing. (see attached shitty picture for reference). Not sure if it was on when I first put the key in as I didn’t look at the dash. Spent 45 minutes trying to get it to start before I had to drive the wife to work so I could use her car. Things I have done: Unhooked the battery multiple times (once for at least 15 min, and with my foot on the brake for a bit to try and drain the system) Tried my spare key (A side note, this is a copy of the other key I have. When I bought the car it only came with one and I had a copy made) Unhooked the ECU Checked the connections at the ECU. Everything here seems fine no broken wires that I could see. Unhooked all things plugged into the OBD2 (wanted to make sure Aeroforce gauge or AP wasn’t causing issues) Heated up the garage. It was 2 degrees out this morning and I know cold can do stupid things to cars. Got the garage to at least 45-50 degrees. That’s what Ive done, and none of them have worked. Anyone have any suggestions? Ive made no changes to the car recently. Tonight I plan to start checking over the wiring harness to see if something is broken somewhere, but other than that I have no idea on what to do. I read though the shop manual a bit at work here at there are a lot of possible things, most of them are a bad key. But trying both keys and no luck leads me to believe something else. AP cant connect to read the any DTC so Im not sure what to do to check that. Will an autozone one read the codes?

| Not Ranked : 0 score Steering wheel locked? Try inserting key and turning the wheel back and forth when key has the acc on. Mine does that sometimes. Key light with key in the car flashes like a bat out of hell. Steering wheel is locked and i jiggle it as i try to turn key to on and it eventually lets go. Only happens when i turn the wheel when car is off and the wheel locks in place.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I have the reset code stuff from the dealer but it's in the Speed (not where I'm at). I'll see if I can find that online to get the key to work. Maybe a low battery in the key.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well no luck thus far. The garage is up to 60 degrees, so its not the cold. Also tried connecting my bluetooth OBD2 adapter and torque app to see if I could read the code, app says I cant connect to the ecu with that either. Any one know if there is a way to bypass the security key sensor. A guy at my work said he had a similar issue, and he ended up putting a few resistors in line with a specific wire and the system was bypassed. Cant find anything too similar on the forum here.

| It's probably a problem with the code ring. It is what reads the chip inside the key. If neither key works then the ring is not receiving. Try banging on the cyl area while the key is turned full over maybe you could get it to clip on for a sec to start the car. if tow it in.

Towing is not a great option. Im heavily modded, and the nearest dealer is over an hour away.

I've had to pop start it to drive home a few times, always pop starts. GLW it. My gremlins come and go as they please.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Check the wire that runs from the main harness to the starter. I have been having problems with that wire since i installed my 3 bar map. Sometimes the car wont start and i have to giggle the wire to get the car to start. I though i had fixed it by disconnecting the wire of the starter and cleaning it. But the problem is back 4 months later.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well I pulled almost all the fuses in my engine bay fuse box, they all check out fine on my multimeter. I was scrolling though the shop manual and found a page that shows what the codes are with the flashing of the security light. the code I got was 1+5 flashes, so #15 . Looks like the instrument cluster forgot my keys codes, or the cluster has failed. Still looking at other options, but its getting wicked cold, so Im gonna call it a night.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well I'm out of ideas, tried everything everyone has suggested. (Thanks Jeff!) But no luck, I'm out of ideas. Tried calling the Mazda dealer but one service department was closed the other was busy and told me to leave a message. They have not called back. So unless I figure out something else, its going to the dealer at some point with no idea what's wrong (can't wait to see this bill) Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

| Not Ranked : 0 score Same thing happened to me when my steering wheel was locked. I had to wrench on it uncomfortably hard, and it broke free. All was good after that.

| Not Ranked : 0 score did you put a multimeter to the starter while it's connected? or did you remove the starter/relays and test them in a different environment? security/immobilizer should lock the column and the ignition. i assume you've eliminated the battery as a possibility. edit: sorry, my reading comprehension is low because i'm at work. don't know if this stuff has been mentioned already. AINT ABOUT TO START READIN NOW

Relay checked with a spare battery (that I checked to be good) plus the one in the car is an optima red top less than 3 months old. The starter is seeing no voltage when I attempt to start it based on the same multimeter. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

| Not Ranked : 0 score My ideas, in no particular order: ignition switch, faulty wiring (assuming no current at wires preceeding terminals), extremely dead battery (unlikely, due to no engagement gear clicking). The solenoid gets 0 voltage?

| Not Ranked : 0 score Had this issue several times when an ECU bricked and no longer recognized the key during a flash. The key ring energizes and reads the key, then it sends the info to the cluster which verifies against the ECU. If any of these parts (key ring in ignition, key, cluster, ECU) have an issue you won't be able to start. Did the flash start at all? In the end ECU had to be replaced, keys reprogrammed. The dealer is the only one that can reprogram keys and that's the first step to seeing if the ECU will talk. Any chance you have some wiring or grounds damage from parts rubbing?

Why would it just stop working? I can't take the intake off and see if anything under there is rubbing. I know when I re-did my battery tray a month ago or so I moved the wires around down there. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
