Cobb v3 upper right sensor thing So I happened to notice something on my v3. Above the T there seems to be something, just curious if anyone knows what. Maybe it's a light sensor that will dim the screen when it's dark out (this would be awesome), maybe a camera that watches me play with my knob while I drive, or maybe it's just that empty space that everyone's hopes and dreams disappear to. Any other ideas, or better yet maybe someone actually knows............ Or I failed at searching and this has been covered and my couch is soon to be covered in the jizz stains of a thousand MSFers. |
Light sensor- The v3 does indeed adjust the display brightness based on ambient light conditions |

Easy to test- cover the sensor with your finger during daylight and you should see the display get darker in a few moments. I haven't paid any attention to mine recently but I remember thinking it got almost too dark and wishing it was an adjustable setting... |
Fancy. If you don't notice it dim, doesn't that mean it's a good thing, and it's working? |
I'm gonna have to test it out and see if it does dim with the finger trick. I would have tried it last night but as you can see it was already dark out. I do know I have wished a couple of time while driving that it had a dimmer feature cause it seemed bright, I never noticed the sensor there before. Spencer, I guess that would be a good thing, a nice steady dim, but like I said sometimes it still seems quite bright. I drive a lot at night since I work night shift and the main road my work is off of has a few lights, but after about half a mile and then for the next couple of miles there are none so it gets quite dark. Maybe it is dimming it's just the surrounding area is so dark it seems brighter. Edit: just went outside and fingered the sensor, it definitely did dim, although it was barely noticeable and took me and couple times covering and uncovering the sensor to notice the change. Like tigrey said, being able to adjust it would be nice, I keep mine in my car almost all the time so being able to make it nice and dim while cruising so it's not quite so distracting, and then being able to brighten it while logging or at the track would be nice. |
Auto Dim is an odd feature, my phone has it, my tablet, even my Desktop Monitor at work has it. I rarely notice it on the phone, the tablet I feel is never bright enough in the sun and often I'll check and it isn't at full bright, and the LCD monitor seems to try and constantly change on me, which is annoying. So ya, and all 3 are still to bright when I am in a pitch dark room... whatever. I could totally see it being awesome to be able to dim it even more, because I feel that is one of the places I always want to dim my phone or tablet more, when running torque or it as a GPS. |
Try putting a piece of black electrical tape over it. |
