Exclamation New AP, won't install driver software for ATR

I'm having a problem with installing ATR onto my laptop. I have Vista 64-bit. As far as I know from researching a little, ATR is compatible. APmanager works fine and computer recognizes AP through that program. Here's a breakdown of my problem.

1) Try to install ATR, prompts me to plug in my AP, which I do.
2)Prompts me to install driver for the device, I click yes.
3) Driver install fails, does not recognize AP, ATR doesnt install.

I have tried everything I know to get it to work to no success. I have also tried with the AP already connected and powered up before starting the install. I have searched for the past few hours on here and on Cobb's forum. Found a thread that was similiar to my problem but was old as hell with no responses.

What I don't understand is shouldnt the computer use the same driver to recognize the AP in APmananger as well as ATR? I bought the AP in hopes of using ATR to fine tune my car.

If anyone could help shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe a little reward for helping me get it to work.

Partly asshole partly serious here.... Restart comp? Any time I've updated my AP or AP manager it needs a restart to detect and finish the install/update.

Thanks for the response. Problem is not with AP manager, that works fine immediately recognizes the AP. It's with ATR. It won't install the drivers needed to recognize the AP in ATR. I've restarted the comp a few times now.

I'll try to do it again and I'll take screen shots and post them of every step I take so you can see exactly what is happening.

Here are some screen shots of the attempted install. This is with the AP plugged into the computer and AP manager closed.

You clicked "Install this driver software anyway," correct? Also try disabling Avast while you install it.

No luck. It now just stops at the waiting to plug in the AP screen.

Tried disconnecting and reconnecting the AP after its waiting for it? Do you have any other anti-virus, ad-ware, or firewall softwares that might be blocking its access?

I would "assume" so. I know it works on my 64-bit Windows 7 and they share alot of drivers. Their requirements say 98 or newer operating system if I remember correctly...

Try turning off UAC temporarily ib the control panel. Windows vista had so many security features, it sometimes cripples the computer.

64 bit windows can run any 32-bit windows program. (IIRC, There are two program files folders, one for each type).

Try running the installer as admin or in compatibility mode.

It installed and worked fine for me on 64 bit vista, so it works with the OS. I disabled UAC in the past, and never turned it back on. Try that route to see what you get.

Drivers are a bitch. You could try manually installing it from the device manager. I could probably fix it in a few minutes but it's hard to explain without being in front of it. Sorry, you're on your own bro.

Have you checked your even log? Start > Run > eventvwr.msc. Look through the Windows logs just after the driver fails to install.

Just a question. The AP works fine with AP manager. Would it not be the same driver? It's like the AP is refusing to communicate with the ATR installer.

I've tried manually installing the driver for it (yes I know how to) and all I get is a screen saying "Windows could not install your AccessPORT" "Windows could not find the driver software for your device"

Fuck microsoft. Also i find it convenient that Cobb tells you to use their forum for help. Fuck that this is part their problem too, for not writing a driver that has a signature with windows.

Well spoke to someone at Cobb. They told me to re-request the ATR download saying that I might have gotten a corrupted file. So I re-downloaded it. It now works fine, which is good cause after doing some logs I need to do some work in ATR.

This issue has happened to me several times before. Whenever I run into I simply leave the ATR installer open where it is and run the AccessPORT Manager installer. It installs the necessary device drivers then the AP will connect to the ATR installer and the process finishes with no problem.
