Default CUMMING OUT OF THE CLOSET

bilsteins on, I'm fairly happy with my selection. I think I went slightly too stiff on the rates but it's still comfortable driving around town for the most part. I'll eventually send the shocks out to be revalved for these spring rates. I have to re-adjust the perches to add some front rake, right now I have a slight reverse rake. I ordered a sylvania headlight restoration kit to clean up the head lights. Next project is a wash, clay bar, machine polish and wax.

I dunno what to tell you, everything i've gathered is 7" all around some people do talk about going 6" in the front. I think thats what ground control ships with their sleeve packages. QA1 only makes a 900lb spring in that length so i'd have to find another brand. I'm sure eibach and hyperco make something that will fit the bill but they are expensive, I may just have to suck it up and go with some more expensive springs. I'm deciding whether I want to add some helper springs to take up some of the slack. Right now i'm experiencing a lot of jacking down. I also need to measure up my bump stops they may be slightly too long. FCM sells a 36mm linear bumpstop, I think mine are slightly longer than that. I'm just going to deal with it for now, but I need to come up with a game plan on what i'm going to do about this.

aligned, got a touge run lip, Lamborghini Newport Beach license plate frame, washed, clayed, waxed and got a nardi woodgrain steering wheel in that order, I have nothing else to add besides the fact that the gay Virginia is for lovers plate will be gone soon.

Default CUMMING OUT OF THE CLOSET

I didn't really pick the best day to do this because it was snowing and I had snow and ice packed into every crevice underneath the car, which caused a constant puddle under the car all day long which was annoying. I was getting a little bit of a misfire when applying high throttle in 2nd gear down low. I had a bunch of parts sitting around so I went ahead and decided to knock it out. Replaced my valve cover gasket, cam position sensor, spark plugs, coils packs, plug wires, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, pcv valve, cam and crank seals. The plugs that came out from the previous owner were gapped to .080 when factory range is .040-.045 which is probably why it was missing. I'm getting a much better burn now. Doing a timing belt job definitely wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Got caught up with trying to break the crank bolt loose and an impact gun didn't work, but bumping the starter did the trick. Other than a hold up with the crank bolt, everything else went smooth and the car runs better now. Afterwords I hooked up some sleds to the rear tow hooks for some sledding action.

Next up is overhauling the brake system and maybe new hubs and rebuilding the calipers because my brakes are starting to drag a little bit. I've heard the brackets that have the slider pins on em are the culprit but I will have to inspect the calipers the next time I have the car up on stands to do the diff fluid. I'm still deciding on what I want to do with pads. I'm thinking Carbotech AX6 up front and XP8 in the rear. Aggressive pads may cause the front to lock up too easily so i'm thinking going with a higher torque pad in the rear may change up the bias a little bit. I may consider HPS and HP+ but i've never been a fan of HPS or EBC for that matter. I don't know about pads too much outside of those brands.

Below is a vid from my first event in the nb2. I was pretty happy with the car could be a little bit more aggressive on the brakes, but I rubbed down to steel braids on one of my front brake lines, zip tied it away a few weeks ago doesn't seem to leak. Feels like I have some air in the system which makes the brakes feel sketchy. Found out my master cylinder was leaking, topped it off and kept trucking. Got a new master and slave sitting at home, waiting to get a clutch to replace those along with an SS clutch line. Got some centric standard rotors and stoptech pads from rock auto on the low along with a 949 SS brake line kit waiting to be installed since one of my front calipers are sticking after intense togue runs. Picked up an RB intake on craiglist for 50 bucks figured why not. Got an RB 1.125" FSB coming soon with the mounting blocks and 949 end links. Might try out no rear bar with the RB front bar for next months event.

On my way home from the first autox event this month, my clutch pedal went soft like a limp dick. Luckily I had a new slave and master to throw on the car along with an SS clutch line, nice to have fresh clutch hydraulics in the car now. Old pieces were rusted to shit with dry rotted boots. Installed the RB 1.125" FSB with the block kit and 949 endlinks. I need to tighten up the endlinks with the suspension loaded up because I'm getting clunks when going over cracks in the pavement. Gonna try to knock out this brake job now that I have the SS brake lines. I picked up a nail in one of my tires the day before the second event of the month and couldn't get it patched. Luckily I have tirerack roadside assistance so I can get it replaced free of charge but the tire wasn't going to be here in time for yesterday's event. I had to throw the stock wheels with shitty all seasons on the car. Lots of understeer and very little grip.

I'm dropping the car off at the body shop today to get the rocker panel rust fixed. I bought a patch panel for the shop to use since the rust was spreading into the door jamb. While I have it in the shop i'm going to have my small tupperware side skirts from my old miata painted and installed along with my front lip which is currently plastidipped.

Yea i'm realizing that. I'm gonna wait it out for a couple more events with the dunlops to see how things work out. I'm beginning to question why people recommend front bar with no rear. Before I ordered the bar, I talked to Emilio and he suggested I stick with the 1.125" bar based off the spring rates and wheel/tire setup. I can go one of two routes, sell my tires and pick up some stickier rubber or get an MSM rear bar. I'm kind of capped out on the springs rates without re-valving the shocks. The car feels good on the street, i'm sure the MSM bar will be a plus on the street, I just don't want to end up losing camber gain from stiffer sway bars.

Sticky tires will be a slight band aid for your current unbalanced setup. MSM RSB will just reduce grip further in the rear to match the grip you lost with the FSB installation. It generally best to find more grip, rather than reducing it, but do as you wish.

I have no idea why autox people insist on stupid setups, but they do. (Huge FSB, no RSB)

I dunno bro i'm still in a development year. I just see a lot of people running that setup. Sounds like both are in order..which one to do first is the question.

What are your current alignment specs, & ride height measurements?

They remove the RSB to keep the rear inside tire on the ground so the torsen can do its thing. Same people that do that are also dorking with the toe enough cause severe tire wear.

I don't think you can go really wrong with listening to Emilio about miata suspension setups.

Is that a huge problem with sticky tires on flat asphalt? I have only unloaded a torsen one time, and that was because I had a MSM RSB installed, while sliding a downhill hairpin. That was never an issue with the stock M edition RSB. I actually felt the progressive springs I installed on the R Package Bilsteins had more to do with that occurring than the RSB being to culprit. I don't feel like droop travel changed much between 2mm of RSB difference.

How much more droop is there to be had w/ no RSB?

The stickier the tire the worse the problem is. It's not static droop that changes at all. It's all about cornering forces. The more cornering force you can generate, the more compressed the inside spring becomes via the sway bar. Stiffening up the front will flatten the car and help mitigate, but it won't prevent and has other side effects. I have pictures of my inside rear tire off the ground in the MS3 on star specs, put some real rubber on and it would be that much worse. In additon, acceleration makes the rear suspension compress as well, not helping the situation.

Default CUMMING OUT OF THE CLOSET

Did an event a couple weeks ago, back on the dunlops much better compared to stock wheels and all seasons. I really need to get a roll bar now to get rid of this damn gopro vibration. I need to pick up some 949 endlinks in the rear so I can get the car corner balanced and re-aligned. The preload on the front links isn't equal. Picked up a used Roadstersport3 axleback for free for helping a local pull some parts off of his totaled car. Hit the exhaust with some high temp ceramic engine enamel and slapped the bitch on. Sounds better compared to the MSM axleback I had on the car. Purchased a hard top from him as well. Got my front lip painted along with the side skirts off of my old NB. Next up is finding some times to install my brake pads, rotors and lines and a clutch once I settle on which one I want to go with.

Put in a new Competition Clutch Stage 2 clutch and Fidanza Flywheel. Breaking it in is such a tease. Going to try to find some time to put in my mazdaspeed competition motor mounts and diff mounts soon. After hearing my buddies Enthuza axleback I decided to hack off my roadstersport muffler and get a borla pro xs muffler welded in, alot cheaper than buying an Enthuza axleback. Sounds way better than the roadstersport and that cannon ass tip. Eventually, i'm going to pull the RB mid pipe and axleback off and paint it all black. Ordered a CSF radiator from goodwin racing today, it's crazy how hot this thing gets with the stock radiator at speed with the AC blasting, should be a solid improvement. I've been hearing good things about CSF, i'm still on the fence whether I want to replace the radiator hoses, they seem fine. Pulled the AEM uego off my old 3. Hopefully ordering an MS3 basic next month and getting it dyno tuned in the fall. Still need to install my brakes and SS brake lines, been putting that off for too damn long. Once I get a roll bar installed along with my radiator and brakes done, i'm going to try to get out to VIR for some HPDE events. Hopefully I can get out there before the end of this season.

It wouldn't be an update without pics of the old shit and new hotness.

Ordered a HDHCDDHT roll bar and a MS Labs MS3 Basic from Reverant. I will probably end up changing a couple things before I get the car on a dyno to get tuned. I'd like to swap out my RB intake for a K&N so I can integrate a GM IAT sensor and delete the MAF sensor. I am on the fence about getting an RB header as well, considering the flow characteristics of the stock NB2 header. The downpipe just looks beat to shit with the heat shielding on it rusting away.

Not sure about autox, but it is common knowledge in road racing that the brake fluid reservoir leaks a bit where it does into the master. Use two zipties, one on each side, to tie the reservoir down.

Probably worth it, considering you are quite often above 6k rpms.
