I Bought A Miata Once

Just can't stay away from these things. First miata was a 1990 NA6 and I loved that car but it was pretty rough around the edges. Sold that for a 2000 NB1 and absolutely loved that car, still miss it sometimes. Ended up selling that a couple years ago and this past weekend I picked up another NB1, 1999 this time (build date of 12/97 tho haha).

Took a nice 8 hour drive down to TN with my roommate/good buddy @HawkeyeGeoff; where we picked up the car in Nashville. Left around 4am and got back around 12:30am. I'm pretty happy with the purchase, 3 owner, 53k miles, no rust, garaged its whole life except the past year, has an OEM hardtop with headliner and defroster, Racing Beat intake, header, springs, front and rear sway bars, front sway bar brace, adjustable endlinks, spark plug wires, KYB AGX adjustable shocks, braided steel brake lines, Rota Grid 16x8 +20 wheels with super subpar General AS03 tires. Also got a pretty beefy binder from the original owner with all of his purchases, maintenance etc.

It'll be my daily for (hopefully) the next few years. Don't have a ton of plans for it as far as powertrain stuff goes, it's already got a torsen rear end and the 5 speed is in great shape. The engine is very healthy, tested 215-220psi across the board on a compression test. I might pick up an exhaust for it since it's pretty quiet right now. Other than that the only stuff I think I'm going to change is to pick up another set of wheels and tires (looking at Jongbloed 15x9 and either 225/45 Hankook RS4 or BFG Rivals) for a summer set and throw some aftermarket seats in it to give me more legroom and possibly an aftermarket steering wheel as well, I LOVE Nardi's deep corn wheel but it's a pretty penny.

Don't have a ton of pictures of it yet, just some crummy phone photos. Yanked off the soft top yesterday since I pretty much never drive with the hardtop off and the extra deck space is nice, and for teh weight deductionz. Sometime soon I'll also be removing the power steering, removes a bit of weight and it's one less thing to leak, also because I'm not a pussy.

IIRC, Jongbloed wheels are boat anchor heavy.

Something like 2lbs per wheel I think. But at $109 per wheel vs 6UL @ $175 per wheel I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

But the new Beryllium finish on the 6UL looks sooo good.

I have a box of spare na8 Miata parts that I could ship your way, includes gaskets and things.
I started collecting parts to do a Miata turbo build years ago, now they're just sitting.

I'm not in need of any parts currently, also becoming limited on space but I also do like parts. Are you going to GLD this weekend?

Doubtful. most likely building and swapping a motor for racecar this weekend instead.

Not sure yet, but the 180k motor is making unhappy noises.
My bet, is that it spun a bearing.

Congrats on the find. I also picked up a 99 NB1. As much as I love the NA6s ... something about the 99s/Non-VVT has me giddy.

It sucks you won't be dedicating it to the track. Shame on you!

I know! The NB1 is by far my favorite, I did almost buy an NA8 though.

You never know, maybe it'll get turned into a track car in a couple years after I've got some solid time out of school and the 6 isn't such a drain on my wallet.

I wish daily that I fit in a miata....

If I could somehow find leg room and head room I still can't get my shoulders comfortably in an NB. Being gorilla-sized sucks
