Default Help me Identify these parts

First, thank you to all the members for all that has been posted on this forum! I have learned a lot already and hopefully will learn enough to get this job finished.
I am pretty far into my daughter's 2008 CX-7 turbo and timing chain replacement. Found the VVT will need replacement also. After finding the amount of wear on the valve cover and timing chain slides I decided the oil pan had to come off to be cleaned out. Well it's off and now I have a new problem, spare parts in the pan!

The parts look like they could be from a ball check valve (missing the ball). the disc could also be an orifice, it looks like an o-ring groove in the o.d. I have the oil pump, oil pickup and oil filter/cooler all removed and can find no place that these parts could have come from. I have been searching the forum and the Mazda repair manual but, so far no luck. I am hoping someone here can point me to the right place.

Make sure you replace all the friction washers. Without doing so, you're going to have a really bad time.

Looks like you lost the button from the side of your VVT:

You are correct. When I inspected the VVT this is what I found. Turns out the plug in the hole on my VVT is the inner piston that locks the VVT when required. On top of that goes the spring and the button that I found in the pan. Looking at it again I can see the retaining pin is bent and broken, I didn't notice that initially I just saw the chip and knew I needed to replace the VVT . It only took a small amount of pressure to push that piston back into place.
Thanks a lot! I knew someone here would figure this out.
