Default ALL NEW SSP Oil Catch Can Kit!!!! Ready to ship!

Hey guys, EdgeAutosport.com is proud to announce that SSP has come out with yet another solid and very functional product that we can all use on these cars. This is specifically for Gen2 but Gen1 kits are right behind and will be the same concept. A few more things need to be buttoned up for the Gen1 kit. These are ready to ship!!! Enjoy!!

You can buy it or check it out here as well:
SSP Oil Catch Can Kit MS3

Features:

- Fits in Drivers bumper area, making it have easy access for draining. We have also designed it to clear most cold air intakes on the market.
- 100% Developed, Designed, and Constructed in House
- High Quality 10AN Fittings utilize 5/8” hose to your oem PCV breather and valve cover. High Temp caps are included for the intake manifold and intake with clamps.
- High quality CNC bent aluminum is used for rigid construction and exact fitment for all 2010+ MS3s.
- Recommended for OFF ROAD USE ONLY

Many overlook the need for a VENTED, Large Hose catch can system in the quest for their HP achievements. SSP wanted to take a first hand approach towards creating a unique solution for the Mazdaspeed community. The TX Race Series Catch Can was inspired and developed from in house R&D, track testing, and numerous road and drag racing victories in multiple platforms. If you're looking to prolong the life of your motor, add power, and not brake the bank in the process.......look no further!

Q: Why Do I need a Catch Can? What does it Really Do?
A: All motors suffer from "piston blow-by" during a combustion event in the cylinder. Forced Induction (turbo, supercharger, etc) see a very tremendous amount of blow by due to the fact you are creating a positive charge entering the cylinder and in turn making a bigger "boom". While Naturally Aspirated motors can see gains from a proper ventilation system, forced inductions cars will see an extreme gain comparatively.

Q: What am I actually gaining from venting the crankcase with the catch can?

A: Positive pressure in the crankcase creates pressure on your pistons as they are coming down, you will notice in the charts below that spool and low end (even in a stock turbo situation) was improved. The main reason for purchasing this kit is not HP gains, that is the bonus. What you can expect from this kit and venting the engine properly is better oil longevity, your oil will not break down as fast, as the catch can is catching alot of the contaminates and gasses that break down your oil (leading to longer bearing/motor life). Another positive side to venting the crankcase, especially on the Mazdaspeed3 is that your seals/gaskets will hold up longer - oil pan, rear main seals, crank seals, timing cover sealant, most of these do not go out from age, but from constant changing in pressure and moving so slightly as to change how they ride on the cams/crank - causing them to leak in most cases after time.

Q: Why is no one else running a kit setup like this?
A: "We are not out to re-invent the wheel, we just want it to turn faster" . Look at what other communities are doing in the automotive world for catch can systems, and you will find that many run a setup very similar. This is a proven part if manufactured and designed correctly.
jeffdevo and rfinkle2 like this.

That's exactly right. There is an anodized black drain plug at the bottom to make draining it simple. So aside from all the other kits on the market currently, there's no chance of recirculation at all, it just gets vented at the catch can.

It is higher in price but for proper ventilation I think the price is quite nice. It sure beats cleaning oil up when you blow dip stick out at 24psi.

28 PSI on the 35r with just an old MD OCC, a ported valve cover baffle, and a big fat line going to right in front of the turbo on the inlet.

Not a drop, spec, or whiff of oil coming through at line either.

That actually brings up a good question. If this goes between the pcv and valve cover where does the vacume come from for the occ to catch everything? Or does it solely work off boost pressure flowing thru it?

"utilize 5/8” hose to your oem PCV breather and valve cover", I haven't had a chance to install it nor did they include install directions, but this is the key point. How and where it's installed as opposed to your standard OCC. I could be wrong though.

So I take it the Corksport has smaller lines...

Does the Corksport have the breather as well, the one on this kit looks pretty extreme!?

There isn't a line from our PCV to our valve cover. We need two sources of vacuum in the crank case. The im under vacuum, and the intake under boost. Going from the PCV to the valve cover, will eliminate BOTH.

Hey guys, I asked David @ SSP to give us clarification. Here's his answer.

Ok, let me explain this a bit. Yes, we are cutting off both sources of vac on the crank case. Now, let me explain why, I will use the example of the EvoX as it has an identical PCV system as the MS3, even down to the hose size.

During Idle and cruise (out of boost, meaning less than 0psi). Both hoses are pulling a VAC on the crankcase, which is what they are supposed to do. Now, the second you hit any positive pressure in the intake manifold, the PCV Check Valve (located in the green fitting on the block) closes. Now, you have only the intake to valve cover PCV hose doing any work at boost pressure over 0. Now, we can relate this to the MZR platform with our testing from the Evos...During a wot pull the intake pcv hose is simply NOT ENOUGH. On my testing car here, I welded a 1/8" npt bung on the valve cover and installed a boost reference (pressure logger setup), at a wot pull on STOCK TURBO on e85 (around 330whp on our mustang dyno) the crank case still has 5 psi of POSITIVE PRESSURE in it. Positive pressure = loss of power.

Now, lets do some reviewing here. Do you buy this product solely for performance gains? NO. What you buy this product for is for the job it is made to do, catch crap. Notice how the hose back into your intake "bleeds" alot of oil and contaminates back into your turbo? Now it cannot possibly do that. Ever take your throttle body off and notice all that amazing sludge in there? Yeah, 90% of that is from the PCV, 10% is probably EGR related. Take the intake manifold off and look at those valves? Ewwwww. So, what you do? I would purchase this kit that will allow for 0psi (out testing showed less than .1psi in the crank case with the kit installed, the evo kit is identical in overall design and hose inner diameter) in the crank case at WOT (making more power as a bonus, how much? not sure as I have yet to do the testing on the MZR platform. On a 330whp evoX on e85, around 10whp. At 450whp, 22whp gains) as well as an EGR delete kit (We offer 2 different kits unlike most on the market) and clean your valves while you are in there. A nice set of thermal spacers to top it off and maybe injector seals if on BT. Put some miles on the setup, some real miles, 20K+ go back in there rip off the intake manifold and notice how clean everything still is (assuming your turbo isn't shot and spitting oil in the IC piping).

I can understand how it is hard to grasp the concept, but we have done enough testing to back the product, I promise. Our evo kits are the number one catch can kit on the market, best seller, results, quality, etc hands down.

Please note: The more crank case pressure you are developing and now venting into the can, the more power you can free up. We have noticed that on the Evos around the 300-350whp range, they are running around .2-.3afr leaner up top (yes, that means the can is working). On larger turbos, even more. What does this mean to you? Install, proceed with pulls in caution, tune accordingly if needed.

I hope this clear up some of the doubtfulness of the effectiveness on the product. Feel free to give me a call directly here at the shop if you have any further questions.

Does the pcv have to be gutted? What if it is not?

Tuning for catch can.
I'm curious about what vacuum readings are at idle.
Trims shouldn't be affected. Does the kit include a manifold and TIP block off then?

I know it includes the manifold block off for sure. I'd have to ask on the intake one.
