one thing I noticed, and I'll give a little insight if that's ok with you guys, is that you put in the boxes about the initial bite of standard brake pads.

I'd like to branch off of that and tell people interested in semi-aggressive pads to take this "bite" into consideration. I.E. when buying the pads, do you want oem feel ('bite" right away) or with upgraded pads (bite or dig later in the pedal feel)

it takes getting used to, but I have hawk hps pads and once I got used to them, I actually prefer less initial "bite"

it's a totally different experience braking with non-oem spec pads. braking is a lot lower in the pedal, but definitely stops better.

I say this because people have complained about the brakes feeling "weird" on my car. Not weird, just because racecar. lol

Yes, this is exactly the kind of feed back we want! And I agree with you too. I got HPS pads for my personal speed 3 a long time ago. Scared the crap out of me the first time I tried to stop with them cause it was like there was no brakes coming from the hard biting oem's. Once I got used to them I preferred them. You have to push the pedal a bit harder but there is more feedback from them too.

Perfect timing. I need to replace mine but never looked into different types of pads. Thanks for the post!

Haha HPS...because racecar. More like because commuter car. Step up at least to HP+ on the street. When your brake pads feel like they'll stop an M1 Abrams and produce a squeal so loud that will pop tympanic membranes, then you can say because race car.

Reason why I stray away from less initial bite, is because there is a fraction of a second where you're not stopping as well as you should be. That's a compromise I can't live with. I recently had an accident, where I was using pads that had less diminished bite. There was a fraction of a second that it took the brakes to hit ABS and start to do their job well. That fraction of a second could be 10 feet, I got rid of the pads and went to HP+ and couldn't be happier. Yes people look at me when i'm applying light braking pressure, below 30mph...but don't care. I hope their ears bleed.

I have heard the hp+ on many many different speeds, and I don't think I could ever stand that squealing. haha

Anyone with personal experience on the EBC Reds? How is the initial bite and overall feel with them?

Great thread, but I don't see the gap filled by the OEM pads. I'd imagine they fall in the second category of spirited but normal street use, but most of the ceramics I see listed lack the "bite" of the OEMs.

Who makes a half price ferodo?

I'm running EBC reds in the front and I will be using them in the rear soon as well. I like them. I can't really directly compare them to the OEM MS6 pads, because they probably had 3-4MM of pad left when I bought the car. I'd say they are similar to most OEM pads though. They bite well in everyday driving and stop well from high speeds, but I haven't really beat on them much yet. Overall they seem to perform like an OEM pad, they seem to have a very linear response to pedal pressure as well. I think the linear response to pedal pressure makes it feel like you're using a little more pedal than you would with OEM pads, but that gives you more feedback and I wouldn't say it's an issue at all. So, in terms of initial bite, it's probably slightly less than OEM. However, they have done fine when having to hit them suddenly trying to avoid idiot drivers. I can't recall any times when I noticed them fading, but I have not really done any long spirited drives or ABS stops with them yet. I will say that I don't have any complaints, so they seem to be doing their job.

Awesome! Thanks for the review!!

I rock EBC yellows up front and OEM in the rear. They have been great on the track days Ive run, and actually I have no complaints on DD ability with them. Debating on putting them in the back to when the OEM wear out.

Great write up.
