Default Clutch Masters Twin Disc Clutch Kit now Available at EdgeAutosport!

Just wanted to formally announce that this clutch is now available for the Mazdaspeed platform. We have sold a few now and it is looking like a great option for big power guys.

Product Description

Clutch Masters is proud to introduce the finest and most economical multi-plate clutch systems available for today’s high performance vehicles, the 725 and 850 Series. Clutch Masters Twin Disc systems are pure racing technology that also works well in high performance street applications that will be used on the street on rare occasions. They are designed to hold tremendous horsepower and torque ratings, while being reasonable to operate on the track. By increasing the clamping force of the pressure plate and adding to the square inches of usable disc area, CM Twin Discs significantly increase clamping values with an average of 50% increase in pedal pressure depending on the application. The cover assembly is machined from billet aluminum. The flywheel is machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum to meet SFI spec 1.2 for competition in NHRA, NDRA, IDRC, IHRA, SCCA and NASA. Each aluminum flywheel includes a replaceable heat shield. Steel flywheels are also available on select applications.

725 SERIES – (7.25” Twin Disc)
The 725 series is a smaller diameter assembly, which creates less rotating mass and offering quicker and smoother shifting with much better throttle response, ideal for drag racing applications.

The Street Race option features one rigid ceramic disc, and one fiber tuff rigid disc, while the Race option features two rigid ceramic discs.

The Clutch Masters Twin Disk Clutch Kit 725 series is $1687.50 shipped to the Continental US. Also, shipping internationally will be significantly cheaper than other clutch options due to it being about half the weight.

Do you have a actual weight for this vs say an ACT kit or Spec kit vs stock?

It won't be 50% off, but they will be included in Black Friday deals

We just weighed one and it came in at 22.6 lbs box and all. The ACT clutch weighs in just shy of 40 lbs.

Mine didn't take long to get so it won't take long for you either. I think mine took less than 7days to get to Edge from the time of order.

NOTE: Glad to see more people wanting this option!

Yowser, I have to start figuring out how to get the money for this when I do my build next year. This is about 18% of my budget! Good to see and hopefully @qtrmile beast; can add this to the weight list.

Get rid of your budget lol. If not add about 20-40% total to your org budget, as I've seen that usually is the case when you start a big build. lol

@LumberJack; well my budget started around 10k, but as I priced things it's grown closer to 15k. I'm going to be going to Korea for a year with return orders for Lewis McChord Washington, which is like 20 min from Auburn(according to mapquest) where tork motorsports is located. So I'll be dropping it off with a check and a prioritized want list, and see where I end up at.

Hahaha, you might not need more than 12k. My build is about as balls deep as it can go and through today in hard parts for everything including misc shit, gauges etc I'm at about 9k give or take and I have about another 2k-ish to spend on machine work and heading porting with Justin when he assembles the motor. 15k is definitely on the safe side.

I'm familiar with that area as I grew up in Auburn/Bonney Lake and had a few friends stationed at Mcchord while I was living up there

You don't know budget until you spend the money on a liberty walk widebody conversion, ESS-650 S/C kit, 380mm BBK, suspension and full race interior for a bmw m3.... ohh wait wrong forum. Carry on.

For real though a guy on M3post dropped like 60k on his car. It's sickening.

Yeah.... the twin wasn't supposed to be included in the black friday deals. Jp had to fix it earlier..The listed price of 16xx.xx is the price.

Looks like the family is growing for folks needing upgrade clutch....

i may be part of the family as well. Hopping I can get another year with my current clutch....

Anyway, I wanted to chime in because couple months ago, I talked to the folks at mazdamotorsport about updating my stock clutch to a more robust clutch for my Gen2 and I remember, the guy had concern with lightweight clutches on the speed3 platform.

His explanation, was that since the car is turbo charge, it needs some weight on the flywheel.

So don't quote me on this since I'm not a clutch expert. So what are your thoughts folks about lightweight flywheel on this platform?

Thanks

As far as I know after talking with Jp the other day. He has only ever sold 2. One of them was a while back (months ago), and the other was sold to me for my setup.

Our clutches stock are only extremely heavy because they're self ratcheting/adjusting. You look at the other platforms, evo/sti/honda etc there clutches are wayyyyy lighter than our stock.

For reference my Competition Clutch Twin disc in my Honda (k series & B series) only weighed 12.7lbs total assembly. Our twins in weigh right about 22lbs which is still heavier than a lot of other Twin Disc setups. I do not see this being an issue at all with our cars.

The street/race setup with 1 sintered iron disc and one ceramic disc is rated at 700-750tq

The Race setup with both discs being sintered iron is somewhere around 850tq

Any idea what the holding capacity is for a dual spring fiber disk version. That's the one I'm leaning toward for my car since I track it a lot I don't want one miss shift to blew the tranny apart. The road course has a lot more potential for errors then the strip with regards to shifting.

If you're going to track the car you'd want the Dual Sintered Irons discs. They're the highest holding capacity with the slowest ware rate. Also, the disc type won't necessarily help your trans on a missed shift, a missed shift is a missed shift and going to do damage to the gears and synchros'

NOTE: What do you mean by dual spring? Discs inside of a twin don't incorporate springs on the discs like a single disc act style setup if that's what you're referring too?

I don't mind about the wear rate since the car is pretty well only used on the track now.

I was just under the impression that unsprung sintered iron can cause wear on the transmission shaft.

I don't plan on making more then 450wtq at any RPM. Hell anything over 300ft is barely usable on the road course.

I've never heard of sintered iron causing any extra or abnormal wear on the trans and any of it's components. I've been running twins for some time. If anything it would help reduce wear on internal parts. Having a multi disc style clutch with sintered iron discs would help. The way they transfer and dissipate heat is much greater than a fiber disc so less chance of missed shifts and other mishaps with the clutch

How is the engagement and pedal pressure on these?
I have an ACT 6 puck on my MS3 and I don't mind the pedal pressure but I'd like something with smoother engagement for my MS6

Engagement is quite nice IMO. Pedal pressure is less than an act IMO, the clutch pedal does travel less and the clutch grabs much lower to the floor. Once you get the hang of how low and quickly it grabs you'll never wanna go back to anything but a twin disc. Don't second guess or hesitate with this decision, best one you can make is getting this

These clutches are putting the power down in the highest HP speeds all over the country. If you are planning big things, then you should maybe plan on one of these...

I have an act 6-puck sprung in my ms6 right now and I am between this and a more custom setup. I have heard the act won't last very long and changing clutches often is something I don't want to do.

How many miles are people putting on these and what is involved in a rebuild?
