As some of you might know by reading our intro thread, our demo car was totaled last august. The winters here in Denver, CO don't allow for great driving conditions so we waited until the spring to replace it. We got the same thing, 09 MS3 GT CWP. We traveled to Las Vegas to pick it up and along the way stopped to hang out with a customer of ours (i gotthatzumzum). It's 100% factory so we'll start putting up pictures in a build thread when we start wrenching on the car. Lookin' forward to gettin back on the mod wagon for ourselves!!!

We are an online retail store....and yes we do still like Mazdaspeeds.

At the risk of getting laughed at, we'll post up our baseline numbers. We really want to document this whole build for you guys to see. We're going to do as many reviews, research, development, etc. as we can and we want to share our experiences and findings with the community. We'll be doing dynos compared to our baselines every time we add a major part or as we tune it. Lookin forward to our build!

As for our quarter miles...let's just say that 5800 feet of altitude and a track so cold they are using torches to keep the rubber on the track warmed up are not good for going fast. Oh ya, winds in the opposite direction of the track too. At least our car came with the driver mod

If I told you, I would have to kill you lol. We're definitely going to go BT. Not sure when but were going to take our time. We want to do some testing with different intakes, downpipes, manifolds, etc. at the same time to see what flows more and what the car reacts to better. We want people to see a non-biased opinion on what parts are best for their car both from the value perspective and just pure performance. Ultimately we really want to test the potential, driveability, reliability, etc. of different turbo setups so people looking to take a certain direction with their car will have a reliable source to get info from. We are growing our company at the same time so it won't be all at once but we'll give you all the info we find, as we find it.

Sorry, we're Edge. We are only retail though so we use our local shop for dyno and tuning. Our own shop is definitely in the near future though.

Ya I've heard a few things but nothing near the amount of good things about them. I've done some research on some shops around here and known about several of them for a long time. Everyone has issues from time to time. MAC has tuned with AccessPorts for about 5 or 6 years now and if you've ever talked to Nick, that guy has an enormous amount of knowledge about ECU tuning. The guy is super nice too. His best MZR tune was a 380awhp MS6 with a 2871. We'll be playing around with tuning ourselves and definitely do all the installations we have the equipment for but until we have everything, it'll go to MAC.

Nick is the man when it comes to Tuning. If u have ever seen the guys personal cars there u know they do good shit. I don't remember who has that E85 WRX but that shit is beyond fast.

We finally started modding our car! We got the full CPE intake on this past week. We will be putting on a turbo back, rear motor mount, BOV, colder spark plugs and doing a Cobb AP custom tune as soon as all parts are on. Some are here and the rest are one their way so we'll be done with this first step once all parts are in and we get tuned. We'll post up pics a little later.

Here's the most recent dyno of our new project MS3. It has spent a lot of time at Mazda since we bought it at the end of march and we finally were able to start modding it within the last week or so. Here's the first mod, CPE XcelNano SRI and the CPE Nviscid Inlet Pipe.

We're here not only provide parts but provide information on what you can do to modify your vehicle effectively and safely. Here's an interesting find for those of you that are new to this. On our old 2008 MS3 before this one, we actually dynoed at 253hp and 314tq to the wheel with a Cobb Tuning SRI only, not even the inlet pipe. Here you can see on our new 2009, we only gained about 5hp and 7tq from a much larger CPE intake and that includes the inlet pipe totaling 247hp. Why would a smaller intake with a 2.5 inch MAF housing outperform a 3 inch CPE intake? Other than any slight differences in stock ECU tuning from Mazda, upgrading the intake using a stock MAF size allows the ECU to properly recognize the amount of air that is entering the engine. When a 3" intake is used, the ECU does not quite recognize how much air is really coming in compared to how much the MAF is reading based on the factory ECU settings. This means that for those of you that won't ever get your ECU tuned, it's most likely better to use a stock sized intake rather than the CPE or any other 3". There are probably some slightly different factory ECU settings from 2008 to 2009 which might affect the outcome. However, if you ever buy the Cobb AP or a CPE Standback and reflash your ECU to make up for the MAF size change, ultimately the 3" intake will be a better intake for making more power.

Tomorrow morning we'll be on the dyno. It's been a bit of a mystery what effect a catback exhaust has without the downpipe but we'll put any speculation to rest tomorrow. We specifically wanted to see what changes just the CBE made before we put on the downpipe which we know has a much greater effect on exhaust flow. The butt dyno doesn't say much but we'll see what the numbers say tomorrow. We'll also do a couple runs after flashing an OTS (off the shelf) Cobb map so we can see what kind of reaction the car has to one of these flashes. Although we have a 3" CPE Nano intake, we'll still use the Stage 1+ 91oct SF Intake (2.5") flash.

Soon to follow will be a downpipe, FMIC, and colder plugs. We don't know how long we'll be able to stick with the stock K04 turbo but stick around because I have a feeling it won't be very long.

the CPE intake is infact the EXACT stock diameter @ ~2.66" (its a machined MAF housing so its perfect) yet they like to use 3" pipe for the rest of it. as much as i hate cpe i still believe they have SOME good parts just the worst management ever.

if you installed a 3" intake with no MAF recal the car would barely idle as well.......

Ya Nick is tuning it. I want to to take it to Dustin eventually and see what he thinks about my tune after it's all done but I trust Nick quite a bit. The guy knows more than anyone I've ever talked to about tuning, especially the DI motors.

Good point about the intake. You're right about the inside diameter but I guess CPE refers to the very outer diameter of the piping as the 3" part. I haven't actually measured out the Cobb intake like I have the CPE but I would imagine it's close to the same design on the interior of the pipe. But thanks for pointing out the difference.

We don't really care about being all scientific but lots of people make decisions about buying parts based on different things. Some don't care about power as much as they do a sporty sounding exhaust system. Some people care about getting 30hp from a dp and still keeping it quiet. So I just want to put that info out for people to know about. I also have never seen on a dyno (I haven't exactly searched for it) what kind of power differences take place from just an OTS map so I'm actually curious myself. But it's good to have more info for people doing proper research.

Obviously we're in the business of serving customers by providing them parts and if we can provide better research and information, it will help both us and our customers!!!

Okay folks here you go. We did both of these tests really out of curiosity. See above post from yesterday.

We have both corrected and uncorrected for CPE SRI and TIP vs. adding CPE 3" CBE. Then both the corrected and uncorrected for all the above vs. adding a Cobb AP Stage 1+ 91oct SF Intake flash.

We didn't really expect to pick up that much from the exhaust because of the obvious restrictions in the DP more than the factory catback but turns out it gave us nice gains. +11whp and +13wtq just from bolting on the CBE.

Downpipe went on Wednesday, FMIC is going on tomorrow. God dang I love the sound of this motor with that exhaust freed up. We'll be tuning on Tuesday and post our results and maybe another vid. 300+whp here we come!!

Yes sir! I will always do corrected numbers. I'll probably never stop explaining this but IMO it's stupid to post uncorrected unless you're trying to get some sort of record or if you really have a badass project. It would be stupid for me to post that I have ~225whp when I have a fully bolted and tuned car. All people would say is..."that's dumb, that car sucks" lol. It is what it is at altitude, I can't help it and my car isn't any less fixed up than a true 284whp at sea level. That's just my opinion. Like I said, I'll always do corrected.

We're getting tuned at Surgeline on 11/10 for ~sea level altitude. Can't wait to see what we make uncorrected. Looking forward to feeling more power on the butt dyno too, not just seeing it on a dyno graph. We'll post up some numbers once they happen. The next major step is coming soon. Just deciding between a coilover and wheel combo or a big turbo. With sea level air, our stock turbo sure does feel much better than it did in Denver at 5500ft of altitude. Our altitude tune is getting crazy boost cut lol. So once we get tuned, we'll really have some fun with it. Stay tuned!

Okay guys here's out latest dyno. We are fortunate enough to be within 1 hour from Cobb Tuning Surgeline in Portland, OR right now so we jumped at the opportunity to have them tune our car. We just moved up here from Denver, CO so a retune was necessary for the altitude change. We actually did a 4th and final map where we took a little bit of fuel out of it and increased timing and we ran 290whp/334wtq but for some reason that's not on here. We have a little something special coming up for you soon so stay tuned.....

As most of you know, we upgraded to a CPE manifold, coated our valve cover, and installed a GT3076R after this last post but we started a thread in the big turbo builds section and kind of forgot about this. Here's our latest update. Full Race stuff arrived today. We are replacing the CPE manifold with the Full Race. I changed my mind and wanted to show off some other parts that have been coming on the market from really good manufacturers alongside the CPE and Cobb parts we already have.

Manifold is coated in 2000 degree ceramic coating which turns out to be a really smooth and nice silver finish. Full Race does it right by not only coating the outside but the inside as well. They also offer a 1600 degree coating that ends up with more of a matte black finish. We also had an extra bung welded in for the AFR gauge.

We also recently got our CPE intercooler piping powder coated white and we'll post up some pics as soon as the manifold goes in.

Whiteline goods are waiting to go on the car as well. A strut tower bar along with a rear sway bar and end links will really tighten the car up. KSport coilovers are also going on too along with the SPC camber arms.

We have a Stack mechanical boost gauge and will be putting in a couple more Stack gauges when they arrive (we don't keep EVERYTHING in stock ). Oil pressure and boost gauges will be analog and the AFR gauge will be digital, all with a white background.

We're really starting to finally get this thing together and really excited to say the least. We'll be getting PERMed here as soon as everything is all done.














It's very clear that Full Race has attention to detail second to no one else. This stuff is really nice and we can't wait to get it on the car.

We will be selling it yes. We'll also be selling the CPE downpipe. They're both in really good shape and the manifold has about 50 miles or less on it lol.

Got the Full Race manifold and downpipe fitted last night. We need to button up a few more things and we should be able to take it out tonight for some street time!We'll take more pics when we get everything back together.
