Default Kozmic Motorsports Vented Oil Catch Can Reduced Price

Just wanted to let you guys know that the Kozmic Motorsports Vented OCC's have just been reduced in price. They are now $246.05 and include shipping to the continental US.

For those of you that don't know yet what this is, let me explain...

All motors suffer from blow-by during combustion, especially with forced inductions cars like the mazdaspeed 3. This blow by creates positive pressure in the crank case and will this in turn creates a pressure under the piston as it is coming down. Though it is not the main reason for purchasing a catch can like this, a side effect is that you can get a small HP gain as well as a bit faster spool. The main purpose of this catch can though is to catch many of the contaminates that lead to oil break down as well as gunking up the valves.

Click below to purchase.

Kozmic Motorsports Oil Catch Can Kit Mazdaspeed 3 2010 - 2013 - $246.05

Kozmic Motorsports Oil Catch Can Kit Mazdaspeed 3 2007 - 2009 - $246.05

For more information on a complete catch can setup for your Mazdaspeed, follow the links below.

This bad boy, if I'm reading correctly, is to go between IM and PCV, right? But does it have a check valve?

No it does not go between the intake manifold and PCV. It goes between the PCV and the valve cover. And as long as the PCV valve is functioning correctly, you shouldn't need a check valve with this catch can.

so I'm missing something....if you want to maintain vacuum in the crankcase, you're basically running the CC from the PCV/crankcase to the VC (basically the upper part of the crankcase, no?) So how is that introducing or maintaining slight vacuum in the crankcase?

Sorry, just not understanding.

The can has two connections on the engine.

From the factory there are 2 lines the can interrupts....The PCV Line, which is under the intake manifold and goes from the PCV plate into the intake Manifold. And the Intake breather, which is the hose on the back driver's corner of the valve cover that goes back into your intake/inlet.

Take both of these factory hoses off. The can has 2 connections, one will now go directly to the PCV plate on the front of the engine. The other going directly to the corner barb on the valve cover. You will need to cap or plug the factory lines on the intake manifold side as well as the intake side.

This can is fully vented setup, meaning there will be no vac on the crankcase. Its a trade off for venting at high HP. There is not much need for vac at idle, unless your turbo return line design is poor, in which case a little smoke at idle may occur (not a problem on factory turbo).

Like stated above, the oem check valve on the PCV plate (front of engine) does have a check ball in it, causing a restriction in airflow. The ideal way to set the can up would be to use a PERM plate (Edge also has these for a very affordable price), this would delete the factory check valve flow restriction and allow the most amount of breathing flow for the engine.

Hope this cleared some stuff up. - David

If it only connects to crank case why would you even want a check valve restricting flow

...for those of us with stock motors wouldnt it be less smarter to just use 2 non VTA catch cans, one from the PVC and another from the valve cover in order to maintain vacuum?

You shouldn't do this because then you have no crank case ventilation. You are better off putting a breather filter on the valve cover and just running the non vented catch can between intake mani and pcv.

Kinda resurrecting this thread but..

I'll be installing a can I made just like this one when I do my BNR s3 install. Question is, should I route it like the directions say to do so (with crankcase vacuum), or should i route it like in the picture I attached.

Will routing it either way effect my turbo from smoking?

Routing it where you maintain vacuum is going to be the best way to reduce chances of smoking.

Are these still price reduced? This one is the only one with a fighting chance of fitting in my bay

Yes, they are still reduced. I'll make sure the site still reflects that.
