Some things to note about the EFR turbos:

1. They are long. Like really long. The FR mani at a minimum is required, as it doesn't sit in the bay straight, but canted, rotated and angled a bit for fitment (see attached pic).

2. As a result of #1 , you'll need a custom downpipe and intake as well (I make my own intake, not too hard, and will be making my own turboback this time).

3. Stick with the internally gated .85 AR hotside; any lower on the AR and you're sacrificing top end for more spool, which this turbo does *NOT* need.

4. The internal wastegate on this turbo is bar none better than any other wastegate setup; it will handle 1 psi, or 40 without a hint of creep.

Seriously, it's high art what they've done with these things.

They are also very capable of putting down some good numbers in reality, not just dynos:

That is bonkers! Is that your build?
I don't know if I'd have the skill, resources, or money for something like that. Wish I knew more people who have shop access because that seems like it would be one hell of a project.

For my goals nd skill level I may just end up going with the S4 and meth (and supporting mods of course). Then come another couple years down the line with more money, knowledge, and resources look into something on this level. You're clearly on a waaaaaaaay higher skill and experience level than I.

It's not so bad...The turbo kit I linked comes with everything you need exhaust manifold, dp, turbo, oil / coolant lines). You just need an intake and there's plenty of people around here that can help with that...

LOL. Well I do have $4.00 in Edge credit that I could use towards that massive $4K price tag, but honestly, buying that kit is way above my limit and would drain my savings almost completely. Plus, I'm honestly still very uneasy about the Full Race down pipe. Don't know if you saw my earlier posts in this thread Got That BT Itch but I went like three rounds Full Race trying to get their down pipe fitment right - to no avail. I would need their 100% guarantee that they fixed it and even then I'd still be skeptical. Maybe a sizable discount? Like if they knocked a grand off that then I might be more inclined to bite.

Looking at the HTP 3.5" intake, BNR S4, CS 3.5 Bar MAP sensor, and GS EBCS, that still only comes out to around $2K - that I could do. And then adding some 93/E85 and Meth to the mix and I'd be pretty damn content me thinks.

Not to slap anyone in the face or discount the help and input you've both been giving me because I definitely do appreciate the hell out of it! Really, I do! If anything it helps me realize the amount of work and $$$ that can be put into going one route v another. Granted I'm sure that there's more power to come with the EFR setup, but I think it's a little out of my financial reach.

Trust me it doesn't come off as a slap in the face, you're definitely engaged and listening, the bnr S4 is an excellent choice, you cant go wrong with it. Budget is a huge part of this, and if you can get the s4 and meth and be within budget then you're probably laughing because you'll love it

The picture is my engine, the video is not (that's an STI).
Yeah I'm also not a big fan of the FR downpipe, but making an adapter wasn't too hard actually, and their manifold is bar none one of the best I've ever seen design wise. It's even gasket matched at the flange.

Edit:
I also don't have a shop, just a carport and a buddy who can TIG. Cutting a proper intake isn't that big of a deal, really, and the exhaust doesn't seem like it will be too much worse (after the downpipe section at any rate).

Thanks man, really appreciate that. It's all really exciting, but I want to make sure that I take the right steps and not stress myself out and break the bank because my income truly sucks big time right now. Luckily I've been able to set aside some money that would allow me some wiggle room for this project. Wasn't exactly planning on putting it towards a turbo, but like the thread says, I've once again got that itch.
And while I'm still highly considering the S4, I have a small update...

That's extremely impressive that you made that happen with only a carport. Do you have a different daily driver?

On to the update! So before I hastily pulled the trigger on anything:

I just got off the phone with JB Racing up here in Loomis who, a couple months ago, was cool enough to cut out a section of aluminum on my license plate tow hook and weld it back together, making it shorter (since I do have the Full Race FMIC and the crashbar comes out a bit further than stock). Anyhow, he pointed me to Dominique at MM Muffler in Auburn who said that he could cut off the stock bolt pattern from the Ultimate Racing down pipe and weld a V-band adapter on. Think that would work, or is the EFR too long for that to be possible? If it would then all I'd really need would be a custom intake, and the Full Race EM, right? Also, why the custom intake? Is it because the EFR is so long? It'd be impossible to make it work with the HTP 3.5" intake?
And does the EFR pretty much demand the engine being pulled?

I will say I do loathe the thought of taking the down pipe out yet again.

Thanks yet again, guys. I really appreciate the hell out of all the help and input!

It's my daily, and no, I wouldn't think that a standard downpipe would fit; attached is a picture of the FR downpipe for the EFR turbos and it's tight as fuck (and only 2.85 ID; right side goes to turbo).

Also attached is the downpipe setup I'm planning on running (3.25").

That's a new Full Race piece I've yet to see. Ah, I remember that custom piece you were working on. How's that been coming?

Well...I think I'll roll the S4 setup for now and come another couple years I'll look into building the engine and going with a more powerful setup. As much as I want to be the one with the big new shiny toy, forging new paths and shit, I don't have the money for that.

Edit: before posting this I wound up getting sidetracked with boring ol' work and then went back and called Edge where JP I believe it was (used to speaking with Nick and Marlin) informed me that they'd be getting a new shipment of S4s in on Thursday, so I bought the S4, HTP 3.5" intake, a couple replacement gaskets, and the Grimmspeed EBCS. Then I called up Corksport (Brett is such a great dude to shoot the breeze with, always super friendly) and bought the 3.5 Bar MAP sensor (figured it'd give me a little headroom and cut out having to buy an adapter).

So looks like I could potentially get all of this in before the end of next month!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...
Man, I love being a turtle!

No, but thanks for the help, input, and advice. I'll keep you all posted on when I get everything in and during the install.

The S4 is a great turbo for stock bottom end, especially being FWD. I'd say get a 6th port kit over meth, especially since you have easy access to E85. The cost is pretty similar to a quality meth kit and there's so much less maintenance.

This feed line look too short...almost like it's for the S3.
