Default Anyone own a Fiesta ST?

I saw one yesterday, and the interior is so much nicer than the MS3. I'm wondering if anyone moved into one of these recently and can compare them. I'm wondering if I can swing a new car with nicer creature comforts that is still quick. I know they're light and they still get-up and go, but I'm wondering if anyone feels like they are underpowered. I haven't taken one for a test drive yet.

Let's hear it!

Its quite a bit slower than the Focus ST, it doesn't feel any more nimble, or like a go kart at all. Just an econobox w/ a turbo that handles decently thanks to some electronic nannies.

The new tech and interior is very nice in both ST models, just not worth the price tag imho.

Nicer interior is subjective. I found the driver seat leg space cramped compared to my speed3.

Edit: never mind, thought you meant Focus and not Fiesta.

Let's hear it!

The fiesta is a much smaller car than the MS3. They're also pretty expensive. If you're set on a ST I'd go with the Focus. Larger, quicker, with a pretty similar price.

I know it's much smaller. The last few days I was thinking how nice it is to have the space in the ms3.

I like the idea of a smaller car in theory though if it handles well and doesn't feel under powered. I'll have to test drive both but I'll probably be sticking with the ms3 for awhile.

Yeah I like the idea of a small quick little car. Two kids and a wife throws that out the window for me though.

I was a little underwhelmed with the Fiesta ST when I test drove it. I just crossed 180k on my 2008 MS3 and was looking at both the Focus and Fiesta, but wasn't crazy about either. By the time you spec out a Focus ST with the options I wanted thats similar to the Fiesta ST, it's hitting 27k or so.

I found an 07 MS3 thats in perfect condition, 44k miles and always garaged, owned by a Formula 1000 driver that I think I'm going to purchase to replace this 08 lol. Best thing you can do is test drive it.

Same here, underwhelmed and sticker shocked on the fiesta. The focus felt a lot slower than a genpu... But it had a lot less torque-steer. Ford guy kept talking bad about mzr... I had an 06 fusion at the time and he refused to hear the Ford 2.3 was the same as mazda all the way back to the ones in the ranger (sans balance shaft, of course). I told him he was an idiot.

Just wanted to add. Fiesta also comes in a 1.0L ecoboost for a lot less. I haven't driven one yet, but if Richard Hammond from top gear uk liked it then it *may* be worth a look

A lot of Ford people refuse to believe Mazda developed ALL of their 4 cylinder motors from the late 80s until 2006. Ford provided Mazda with v6's during that time period.

He was indeed, an idiot.

I've been driving mazda since the late 80's and working on them since the 323 came to us as the escort with zero - valve - clearance and we're deemed junk because Americans don't understand how to maintain their cars. I always rolled my eyes when I had to ask for a probe part for a KL or FS and the for guy would say (without even looking) "...it's discontinued". Most of the guys behind the parts counter don't even know why they were trained to hate the probe/626/mx6... A few Mustang owners still do, however :-)

Heard nothing hit great reviews for the fiesta st. And if you look around you can prob fond one at a good price. I saw one last week at a dealer I pass daily and it was on sale for $21k nicely loaded too.

Don't have much experience with the Fiesta ST but the Focus is in many ways an evolution of the MS3 line. It is a shame Mazda is taking a break from playing in that space.

If by evolution you mean ,slower, heavier, uglier, with no LSD; then yeah.

In the looks department, it may be starting to grow on me though.

We'll see what happens when it's tuned.

I drove one during the Eco Boost Challenge and overall I liked it over the Focus ST. The car felt like my Speed Protege, in feel and handling...... fun little car to toss around..

Stock for stock I like the ST cars better, the ms3 is more raw, and I want all my money to go to performance if we're talking cars of this price

I recently traded in my 2010 MS3 for a Fiesta ST. I had previously checked out the Focus ST but didn't like it enough to get rid of my car for... the fiesta on the other hand...

It's smaller, more fun to toss around without all that understeer, better gas mileage, can put E10 87 in it no problem for just commuting, and of course... dem recaros.
MZRSPEED likes this.

I would LOVE to see what numbers a mostly bolted, stock turbo'd, Freektune'd on E85 Fiesta ST would put down!

This is true for the cars but the four cylinder in the ranger up until 2001 was an evolution of a ford engine designed in the sixties.

Edit: that also includes all of the turbo 2.3 mustangs and thunderbirds from the eighties

The 2.3 in the 99+ ranger is a Mazda mzr that is externally balanced. It will swap with any other mzr.

It is an evolution of the Mazda FS engine.

Yes but not until 2001/2002 when they switched from the 2.5 sohc to the 2.3 dohc it went to the MZR everything before that is a version of the old Lima ford.
