Thanks again for this. When I first posted in this thread I could barely do anything beyond open a tune in ATR; now I have a pretty good handle on the knock Tables. My car thanks you.

Between this guide, Abilor's and Cobb's help file I'm on the ground and walking. Not quite running yet though.

Has anyone here followed Bucker's guide and tuned themselves? There is no subsitute of a real tune from the actual e-tuners in MSF but has anyone had good results on their own?

That @Bucker is willing to do this says a lot about him. Yes, many have followed his guide with fantastic results. Is it a substitute for a dizzytune? No. Why? Because there are elements of guesswork to tuning safely. The better you get at it the fewer logs you have to take, the fewer map revisions have to be made, and the less headaches you have to have personally when your car is one of the select few that doesn't want to cooperate.

This is a good start to learning to tune yourself, but you will undoubtedly take forever until you get the hang of it whereas any of the e-tuners would be able to do it much faster and with more confidence than you.

Cock Taken.

Bucker's guide is a great place to start tuning. It makes more power than Abilor's but Abilor's guide teaches you more.

The cool thing about Bucker's tune here is that you will instantly feel a gain but it leaves enough tuning to be done to keep you going and interested. I'm on my 10th iteration now after applying all his suggestions to an OTS map but the results just keep getting better and better. If this kind of tuning or computers interests you, DO IT.

Tune: My own (based on the v210 and v231 Cobb OTS maps but ramped way up)

Street creds:
- Fastest known K04/93 MS3/driver with only an AP, CDFP upgrade, intake, and tune | 13.37@106.83mph on stock Dunlops (2.04 sec 60' time, full curb weight, 75*F ambient temp)
- Has gone an indicated 146mph on three occasions now.

Yes I will help you tune your K04/pump gas car; I have much less experience than the major players but I also charge you $0 and can turn you around quickly. 4 satisfied customers and counting...

I have. Coupled with a lot of research and reading from various sources. And i've seen huge improvements. In fact, I feel i may be reaching my limits.

Here is a basis for approach to tuning your DISI MZR:
Read and understand the guides, build a base map, datalog. By then you've developed questions that can be answered by searching on this forum as they probably have been asked already. Apply new knowledge, tune, datalog. More questions develop, search, read, AAH HA moments, tune, datalog, repeat.

If i could race my car now against the OTS map i was running i would crush it. No match what so ever.

Timing is under the ignition folder.

btw, please don't command 14.1 at high loads or wot. Just have to make sure...

These are the steps you should be doing.\

1. Maf cal
2. Air fuel ratio
3. Boost
4. Timing

In a nutshell thats all you gotta do for a tune. Its just how you wanna go at it...do you wanna boost tune or load tune. I personally feel like load is more consistent and save or rather a hybrid tune. This is easy until you get those cars that just dont wanna work. I got two cars and they are reacting beautifully. And my tune was easy to work on as well.

Thanks Bucker. Great cheat sheet. Nice compliment to all the other info I read to get me started on tuning the MS6.

Just got finished reading Abilor's guide and your cheat sheet for like the millionth time to make adjustments in ATR....Thanks for the hard work Bucker!

Also, (I'm guessing not much has changed?) but is this information still all relevant to the new ATR?

IMHO-
Abilors guide is great to get your Positive Mental Attitude going, and has a great walk-through on MAF Cal, but after that it starts to show it's age. Buckers ATR Cheat Sheet is perfect and up to date to handle the rest.

Also need to read the help file that comes with ATR, which is always up to date and, frankly, excellent. Required reading includes the Tuning Guide and the two addendums that follow. Beyond that you find descriptions of each & every table available which are a good reference- Although it wouldn't kill you to read the descriptions as well, skim reading or as needed reference works.

If the above materials are read and understood to the point that you can locate what parts of Abilors guide are out of date, and you can understand WHY you're making the changes to the map that are suggested in this material, anybody can create a darn fine daily driver map they can not only be proud of, but will have learned enough about tuning the Mazda DISI that they will be able to define when things need to be corrected or changed as time goes by, they change mods etc.

Please note tho- there is a difference between creating a nice good daily driver map, and having one of the local pro's craft an e-tune for you. These guys are incredibly talented and have substantial experience tuning these cars. Their work is, without question, worth every penny- just ask anybody with an e-tune!

If you have a Speed6 there is an excellent Technical Training PDF file out there that I think is required reading also, and has a lot of good info regarding the DISI engine which applies to the Speed3's as well.

Default LTFT Learning Zones

@Bucker

Just got my AP and was going to start doing my MAF calibration here in the next couple of days. I'm going to be using a stage one map to start with (internals are being bought today).

Here is my plan and I just wanted to make sure it was correct.

Take the stage one map from Cobb and make the LTFT learning zone adjustments that you suggest in your guide to it. Load it to the car and drive for 100 easy miles, and then take the logs for the MAF calibration. Would this be correct?

Thank you in advance,
Jimmy

Its not easy miles perse, or only. Its stop and go city miles. The point is for the ECU to hit all the different learning points.

No need to make them "easy" miles, and 100 isnt even necessary. You can get the LTFTs to settle in 30 or less miles if you just run the car through all of the breakpoints.

Ok, thank you for the quick answer.

I just wanted to make sure that I could take the base map make your changes before I do the MAF calibration for the first time without hurting anything.

I reading as much as I can to learn how it all works.

so i'm reading this guide, the abilor guide, and ms3blackmica videos. All three of them seem to use different LTFT breakpoints.

Please note, i have a gen one. Can i still use the breakpoints listed in Buckers guide, or are those specific to gen 2s?

yes, but all three sources recommend something different

Abilor:
0 – 5.7 g/s
5.7 – 18 g/s
18 - 30 g/s
30 – 77 g/s
77 – max g/s

Bucker:
Zone A: 5.7
Zone B: 18
Zone C: 50
Zone D: 75
Zone E: 120
Zone F: 150

ms3blackmica:
Zone A: 5.7
Zone B: 18
Zone C: 30
Zone D: 50
Zone E: 75
Zone F: 120

SO, should i just pick one and stick with it, or would one work better for a Gen 1... and yes, i realize i'm in a gen2 part. I was wondering if the LTFT breakpoint section in buckers guide was universal.

I use mine for everything. I like the 150 g/s max breakpoint because it covers the entire foreseeable part throttle region, but 120 should be fine too.

Link to the ms3blackmica thing you are using?
