I bought the car a month ago, so I don't have a stack of service receipts. I'm interested if they'll give it the ventilation kit or turbo. Funny that I got an aftermarket warranty, but won't even have to use it on these major items. I'm sure something worthy will come up in the next 45K miles.
I'm in the same boat...(extended warrenty 50 deductible) I have had that loud start up noise just like in the vid posted. And my turbo has smoked every now and again since oct.
Question, Got the car may of last year with 45k miles on it. Changed the oil at 49k with a receipt. then at 54k miles I did a oil change my friends house, with the required oil weight. Rotella 5-40
Will they hassle me for not being able to prove that oil change?

**knock on wood** my turbo is a-okay; probably because I rarely really mash it. However my chain is obvious... well - it ticks loudly enough when the engine is warm to hear it over the rest of the engine. I thought it was maybe HLA tick but yeah now its obvious.

Considering my turbew is fine, and considering they already know I have an intake and a "DP" (though I don't have one), I am gonna take my chances and go in anyway without stocking. If they bitch - I'd have to have them prove to me that my SRI/TIP and racepipe are responsible for a bad VVT... BUT - should I go back to stock tune...?

Shit guys!

I'm at 69,650 right now and want to REALLY make sure I don't need this work done tomorrow! It's too cold outside right now to tell if I'm smoking, but I think tomorrow is mid 50's, so I'll check then! Shit! Gotta move my ass if this work needs to be done!

Mazda covered their ass by offering reimbursement for cars getting repaired at owner expense outside the new warranty window.

Guess you could have an outside shop do the work now and have them back date / fudge the mileage so you can get reimbursed by Mazda.

so if you didn't receive turbo paper, does that mean you don't apply for the recall.

Think of it this way. If you take your car into the dealer, is there any way that they could conclude that whatever aftermarket parts you have on the car directly led to the warranty issue they're looking at? If the answer is maybe, or yes, stock those parts out. If the answer is no, you should be safe, but better safe than sorry.

Same situation here. I never received the papers directly, but I'm taking my car in anyway for both issues. I figure the letters/warranty extension are linked to the VIN, not the owner.

You only get the papers if the seller filled out the change of registration form thingy. They are the ones that got the paperwork.

Also, I wonder what changed from the earlier model / turbos to my 08.5 that doesn't have the smoking turbo warranty extension.

I ask because if nothing has changed, this just means they're fucking me because my car is newer/not as many reported incidents.

I'd also like to know what is being done to the smoking turbo - if it's a revised turbo, oil restriction, raised idle, 5w40 or what.

Anyone know?

I think I saw they want cancelled checks or credit card receipts.

The parts list for the MS3 and CX7 includes the ventilation kit. The parts list for the MS6 includes a new turbocharger.

... in spite of the fact that it's been shown not to fix the problem?

If it's the turbo seals shitting the bed, shouldn't it also require a new turbo?

That's what I ment earlier. they new long time ago about this problem. After waiting for so long they, expect ppl having this problem will be out of warranty, now it's the right time to come up with a bulletin.

What the fuck!

I wonder if we could get some petition going or something. It's seriously bullshit. They should straight up just say, if you have VVT noise, bring it in, get it fixed no charge. How the hell do you do a recall on a vehicle, but only allow it to be done for free if less than 70k miles.

I would assume the same thing man but unfortunately we aren't the ones making the rules.

I'll inquire on Monday if ms3's and cx7's would be able to get a new turbo. Maybe if the vent kit doesn't fix it. Who knows..

Because it's not a recall, but an extension of warranty. If it becomes a recall all affected cars well have it repaired regardless of mileage.

Well they should have fuckin made it a recall. I just sent an email to mazdausa explaining peoples situation on vvt and being out of the warranty miles/timeframe. Told them how it should have been done a few years ago, and it should be a recall. EVERYONE PLZ EMAIL MAZDAUSA (CONTACT US ON BOTTOM OF PAGE) AND EXPLAIN HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SHITUATION. IT'S NOT GONNA HURT TO AT LEAST GIVE IT A SHOT. THANKS

Just got my paperwork today, at least I only have 18000 miles, and another 2 yrs 2 months to get this right or yeah that would suck! But now that they know about the issue and it happens to my car I'm not stocking out! Fuck them they would have to prove my minor bolt ons were the cause, especially since its out now! I'll pull the magnuson warranty act out of my ass! I live right next door to the Mazda dealer (thats either good or bad!)

Hello from Idaho,
I am the proud owner of a 2007 Mazda Speed6. I have loved the car since the day I purchased it. I am a member of a mazdaspeed community and recently found out about the warranty extension on the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) on the cx-7, ms3, and ms6. You state that the repair will be covered under warranty within 7years or 70k miles after the initial warranty starts. I am only one of many who think this isn't fair at all. Mazda has known about this issue for quite some time now. Back when my car had 60k miles, it had the VVT noise on startup. Now my car is at 89k miles and apparently out of warranty. It just isn't fair to have 90% of the vehicles having this problem and only take care of a few of these vehicles. It should be a recall, not a warranty extension. Mazda has known about this for a few years, and should have fixed it then. Not now, when all the cars are out of the allowed miles/timeframe. There are many many others in my situation. Much appreciated. Thnx

Just got my warranty papers in the mail yesterday. I haven't notice any excessive noise during start up. I have already warranty my turbo at 42k miles. I'm at 63k now, if this vvt shit happens it better happen soon!

I got one the other day. Only got the VVT one. May take it in if the turbo starts smoking again. AND, if I have to go in again, I'm going in with the fucking race pipe.

Well it seems like a lot of us are going to get fucked once again. Maybe someone could do a how to so we could do it ourselves. I have done all my own oil changes rotella 5/40 used the pill and stopped the smoke. I didn't have all my receipts so I had no choice and I guess I got lucky. But I'm now at 92,000 miles and would like to do this in the spring.

Anyone have an idea how involved this is? Book says 5 hours so it must be a big job. How about the guy on here who works at the dealer give us an idea what is involved and what parts we should get.

Now that would be nice.

The VVT job sucks. It pay the tech 4.3-4.5 hours.. depending on the vehicle.
After about a dozen of them you get it down to about that long but its a sucky job.

To do the vvt job is not hard it take about 1 hours 30 min to do and about 3 hour if you are replace the timming chain.. It pays the tech 2.8 to replace vvt and about 4.5 to replace the chain and ten and vvt

It's not a safety problem so they won't make it a recall. The only thing will could do is call them up and complaint about the time frame but everone have to call and complaint about it.

instead of every one calling, I don't think it'll help. May be just start some action with so general atorney and have them look into this complain.

I think it's a lot of ppl having/had this problem and they are out of warranty now.

I'm not sure if I recall this correctly is this something BBB can take a look at, if every one is willing complain.

Heavy White Smoke from Exhaust Tail Pipe - Warranty Extension Program
Special Service Program SSP84

Dear Mazda Owner:

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) to extend the
warranty coverage for the specific repair of heavy white smoke from exhaust tail pipe(s) concern, on
certain 2007-2009 CX-7 vehicles produced from February 28, 2006 through July 1, 2008, and 2007-
2008 Mazdaspeed3 vehicles produced from July 13, 2006 through June 23, 2008, and 2006-2007
Mazdaspeed6 vehicles produced from August 4, 2005 through June 26, 2007.

The warranty coverage for the specific repair is extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original
warranty start date, with a 140,000 kilometer limitation.
If you are a recipient of this notice, your vehicle is included in this program.

What is the problem?
Certain vehicles may exhibit white smoke from the exhaust tail pipe(s) after long idle periods or while
driving at low speeds in heavy traffic.

It is possible that the white smoke may be caused by the factors as described below.
a) The engine oil, lubricating the turbo charger bearing, may be excessive. When the internal
pressure of crankcase is higher than the exhaust pressure during idling, it is possible that the
engine oil may leak into the exhaust side of the turbine. The engine oil may be accumulated and
heated inside the exhaust pipe, producing white smoke.
b) The engine oil viscosity is low due to oil dilution with fuel caused by insufficient oil change(s).
c) Low viscosity engine oil is used (lower than 5W-30).

What should you do?
If your vehicle experiences this symptom, please make an appointment with a Mazda dealer to
have the vehicle inspected. Your dealer will inspect the vehicle to verify the causal factor of white
smoke. If the white smoke is caused by the factor of a) above, your dealer will install a ventilation
kit or replace the turbo charger free of charge, during the terms of this warranty extension
program.

If the white smoke is caused by the above factor b) poor maintenance, or c) inappropriate engine oil,
this warranty extension program is not applicable.

If your vehicle is functioning normally, there is no need to contact your dealer. We suggest keeping
this letter with the vehicle’s warranty information booklet for future reference.

What if you have already paid for the repair?
If you have already paid for the applicable inspection, repair or part replacement due to white
smoke from exhaust tail pipe caused by the engine oil leak from turbo charger, you may be
eligible for reimbursement of reasonable repair expenses based on Mazda’s repair standards.
Please contact your local Mazda Dealership to receive a reimbursement request form.

Where is the closest Mazda dealer?
To locate your nearest Mazda dealer, visit our web site and try our “Find a Dealer” feature located
at Mazda | Cars, Crossovers, SUVs | SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY | Mazda Canada or consult your local yellow pages.

Moved or no longer own this vehicle?
If you have moved or no longer own your vehicle, please complete the enclosed prepaid
Information Change Card as soon as possible. This enables us to update our records and notify the
current owner. If you are a vehicle lessor receiving this notice, please take steps to ensure that this
notice is forwarded to the lessee.

Still have questions?
If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact our Customer Assistance Center
at 1-800-263-4680.
We actively work to improve our products and search for solutions to improve your ownership
experience. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this program may have caused
you.

Sincerely,

MAZDA CANADA INC.
