I asked that myself. His vague explanation to me was when they work on particular pressure sensitive system and parts the gaskets tend to deteriorate in weak spots. It caused no damage, but they needed to replace the gasket for a preventative matter. To be honest, I do not have a lot of knowledge as to major mechanical issues such as heads, rods, and pistons.

They covered a rental car for me so I'd rather them keep breaking shit and replacing it with new for free.

I would order a compression test while there to see what it says, prior to driving out.

Sounds like they got the oil change guy on it and he fucked up.

Does this mean they changed out the Denso 22 plugs for new stock plugs if they had to change the gasket(though you had to change plugs if your gasket was ever bad)? Id hate to have to buy new ones, just put then in 7K ago.

It scares the crap out of me to hear everything they're screwing with under your hood. After my experience with this particular shop, I didn't even let them right their wrongs - I just took it somewhere else. Keep on 'em & good luck...

I know man, but I couldnt argue with free. To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe my car just shit in their cereal and there was no way around these problems and replacements. Im glad they are addressing rather than ignoring. AND they are being completely honest with me and not giving me excuses like "the parts are on backorder" all while never telling me what was really going on.

Im sure they will back up all their work with some sort of warranty. Eh, Im an overly optimistic dude.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

the wife's 2007 CX-7 has slight vvt noise and 72K, so Mazda said tuff titty. since the wife loves her CX-7, I am investing my $ in fixing it right. I have ordered a DCR vvt acctuator for peace of mind. I have cert. tech with experience on this engine who will charge 7 hrs @ $50=$350. plus 3 to 4 hundered for parts = about $700. not much when you consider the cost of trading it or ruining an engine. I will keep records of repair because I do believe there will be a class action due to Mazda's handling of this known defect.
PS- I have driven/abused a 91 Miata for 206K with no major problems!

Sucks that the closest dealer is 250 miles away! Set up an appt. for the turbo next friday. But they said that a washer for the crank is keeping them from doing the vvt? Backordered til the 14th And I will be out there the 10th/11th... lame

Update on my vvt ms3. The dealer took my car with all bolt ons. He said not to worry about it they will take care of it. I dropped her off this morning and they also have the parts in house. Can't wait.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

Mazda dealership called me again today. More bad news..

After repairing the VVT Leak the camshaft rolled back and crushed the head. Now they have to replace rods, a piston and the head.

Replacement parts wont be in till Monday. They now have requested I bring the rental back in since this has cost them over 7K for everything they keep breaking. They said they can put me in a used car they have so I can have transportation until it is done sometime next week. This is fucking ridiculous!

aw frak.

I just joined this forum a week or so ago, so first, thanks for posting those letters.
thanks to you, I now know that my MS3 isn't supposed to sound like a tractor.

Swear to god, I was sitting at zionsville and 74th st only about 3 hours ago and thinking "I wonder if anyone elses motor ticks like this - nahh, you're more paranoid than usual, stop frigging obsessing about your darn car"...(more my wife's voice in my head than my own, but by now, they're about the same...

then I read this.

My car has been making a clicking noise since about 25K miles and now I'm at 43K.

this is a panic post, mostly, because I've no idea if what I'm hearing is normal or not.

I don't really know anyone else with an MS3 so I don't have a reference.

I guess I should just walk in with the letters from this thread when I get my next regular oil-change with them and say "take a look" and "if you don't find it, explain why my car ticks like it has rattling Vanos chain against the engine cover like my old 325i did at 165K miles..."

again,

frak.

Just picked mine up. The VVT noise at start up is gone but there's still some ticking at idle that I thought was due to the bad actuator or a stretched chain. Maybe just noisy pulleys, noisy injectors, or the hpfp.

It was dark when I picked it up so I'll look this weekend for any oil leaking etc from poor repairs.

$903.00 for VVT replacement, dealer said its not us that makes the warranty call, Told me Mazda just denied someone 2 days ago that was only 300 miles over. VVT part was only $149.00 plus some other issue related parts, 6-7 hours labor. Question is have they improved the design or will this be a repeat...? They had an 07 ms3 with 70k on it, in their front row, that's just like my car I said, imagine that... Stooge salesman couldn't get away fast enough. Think I'm gonna sell mine, only a matter of time before the Turbo starts shitting the bed, since I got both letters, Most likely means when, not if. just hope to recoup my losses. Gonna be a flood of ms3's for sale all with about 75k on the odo.

You are full of what if's.. and a what if isn't enough reason to sell your car, in my opinion. Fuck, if the turbo shits the bed (It may have 50k left on it, who knows?) just trade it off and let the dealer fix it. They can probably fix it for half of what you can, and your resale should reflect that. Then get a new ride.

And here's what else, both rear shocks blown, front struts squeak like old barn doors when temp is below 20F. leaking transmission, must perform dye test @ $89.50. Sticking purge valve, CEL when tank nears empty, then goes away after fueling, dealer tech says, we've done hundreds of those... Clogged EGR Valve, $342.00 @ Autozone, Can only imagine Mazda's price, Tech said cleaning it won't work, we've tried that, problem will return. What's next? All this on a car I wish I could say I beat on, so I could say, Well that's what you get. My overall MPG reads 29.3! Hardly what you could say as been driven hard. How many other problems is Mazda sitting on with these cars if the Techs admitted about the one's that I have with mine???

Maybe your car is giving you so much trouble because you drive it like a pussy.

I may be jinxing myself here, but my car has been pretty flawless and I drive the piss out of it.

Same with me, I've had no trouble with my car what so ever, well except I drive too fast! My dealership has been great also, no problems at all I just drop it off and pick it up. Sounds like I'm pretty lucky, plus you get a fast, fast car for under 30,000 so I say quit your whining about Mazda. Sure they could have used better materials but then your price goes up too, for the money I'm ALL good, zoom zoom.

Your loyalty to these cars is amazing. Mazda doesn't give a fuck about you or your car. if they did, they would step up and cover the VVT and leaking Turbo problems. They've sold another unit. That's the bottom line. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It's called business, they make cars then sell them to try and make a profit, I'm not one to rag on other but you do cry a lot. I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANY car from any manufacture that doesn't have something that could be done better. It's the nature of the beast, look at all the things the car CAN do not what it doesn't do and I'd think you'd find the can do list a lot longer. NO car is perfect, always gonna be some rattle or something so just roll down the windows, turn up the radio, punch it and enjoy the fact that your not driving a Honda.
