Default Lumberjack’s quest for 650+ whp and a 10 sec pass

Alright guys, so the time has come for me to start my build thread and release all the juicy details, plans, and goals for the winter build. I've been on the forum for about a year now and have loved every minute of it. The people, my friends, and the Nator family I've met along the way have been an absolute joy. If it wasn't for you guys this wouldn't be happening right now. I'm blessed to have great weather out here in California to make this happen over the winter and a great host for the motor swap with the Big Tuna himself. I've been around cars for a long time and had the pleasure of making some amazing power on a few other platforms and I wanted to really help progress and push the envelope with this platform as well.

This has been a long journey that's just really getting started. I've been planning and debating on what parts now for quite some time and once I saw Dave get off the dyno it honestly changed everything I had planned for this build and my power goals. I was going to keep my current EWG GTX3076 setup and add some meth to max it out and make whatever the turbo would make. The car currently has 14k miles on it, compression is still pretty strong across the board and making really good power.

SOME PAST PROJECTS:
1)1992 Honda Civic cx Hatch - Built K20 w/ Precision 6768
991whp/578wtq @ 32psi
Best ¼ mile 9.21 @ 172mph

2)2006 Subaru WRX STI - Built 2.7L Cosworth Longblock, Custom Rotated Kit w/ Precision 6765 626whp/442wtq
Best ¼ mile 10.66 @ 135mph

CURRENT MODS on the PU:
-ATP EWG GTX3076 w/ Tial MVS 38mm
-HTP 3.5"
-CP-e Catless DP
-NJSPEED3 PnP IM
-XS Power V2 Exhaust Manifold
-Other normal bolt-ons

BUILD PLANS FOR THE NEW SETUP:
Goal: 650+whp and a 10 sec quarter mile pass

TURBO
-Precision 6266 V-Band turbine housing inlet/outlet
-Kozmic Motorsports Dump Tube (to atmosphere)
-Custom V-Band Downpipe
-Tial MVR 44mm Wastegate
-AFI Big Runner V-Band Turbo Manifold

MOTOR
-CP-e Stage 2 Pistons 88mm Stock Compression
-Manley H-Beam Plus Rods (625 Rod bolts)
-H11 Head Studs
-Supertech Valvetrain 55lb Single Springs
-All new OEM Main Bolts
-New OEM Oil Pump
-All new OEM gaskets
-Clevite Performance Main and Rod Bearings
-JBR Balance Shaft Delete
-Keyed and Pinned Motor
-Head porting - CNC ported intake w/ 5 angle valve job and bowl work. Hand ported exhaust side
-HTP 4" Intake
-HTP Small Battery Tray
-4 Bar Map Sensor
-JMF v2 PI Manifold

I can't thank every one at @EdgeAutosport.com; for making the JMF manifold happen on this build. As of today 2/26/14 hit them up for any of your JMF needs and questions.

JMF Intake Manifold V2 Port Injection Mazdaspeed 3 Mazdaspeed 6 2006-2007

Fueling
Full Port Injection setup made by David @ Kozmic Motorsports. I will be using a modified stock pump assembly/basket running 2 Deatschwerks pumps using -6an feed and return lines feeding either ID2000's or FIC 2150's so I have enough fueling to run 100% e85 for a track map where the turbo is maxed out.

Clutch
Clutchmasters 725 Twin Disc (Street/Race) Setup - I chose to go over kill since I've had plenty of experience driving twins on the street and I honestly prefer the feel and drivability over a single disc. I don't want to worry about blowing out a single disc every few months as this car will get tracked in the spring.

Tuning and Building
I've been Freek Tuned by Justin @atvfreek; since originally going BT and he will continue to tune the new setup as well as building my motor. Everything I've listed above has been paid for and I'm awaiting the arrival of parts. The pistons and rods showed up to Justin's casa today and the motor is getting dropped off for keying/pinning, head porting, and machine work shortly.

As the rest of the parts start rolling in this week and into next week I will be updating the thread with pictures, progress, and as much detail as I can about my journey to making big power and my quest for a 10 sec pass in the spring.

@Voltron Locos; Teddy, you're one hell of a guy and you're crazy as hell. I'm coming for you.... Love you... All homo

I can't even being to thank everyone enough that is involved in this build. Jp, you're one heck of a guy dealing with my questions, emails and calls while I debated on parts and choosing exactly what I wanted. Justin, again I can't thank you enough for dealing with all those questions and bantering back and forth, pretty sure we've come up with some great idea's for this build that way I can't wait to get this motor fired up and making power. @Haltech; Kevin, the Big Tuna himself... If it wasn't for you really, really pushing me into getting this started I'd still probably be sitting around with my thumb up my ass talking about the build. Gonna be one hell of a car once we get her to the track next year.

Last but not least, I have been working closely with @JP@edgeautosport.com; and @EdgeAutosport.com; during the entire build and they are fully supporting the project from start to finish. I’ve had probably about 5-10 experiences with Edge Autosport in the past and have always had a great experience with amazing communication and super fast shipping times. I approached JP a few months back about this build and he really liked where I was taking the build. After talking about it, they agreed to be an official partner of the build and will be providing exclusive assistance with all they are capable of. It has been a great partnership so far and I’m really looking forward to working with them. They are a class act and I am very proud to be involved with them and have them on board for the long haul with the build.

Appreciate it, we're definitely keeping Justin extra busy over there as if he wasn't busy enough already lol. As more parts start showing up I'll be posting more pics. Justin will be taking pics as well with the progress of the motor in that regards.

Fuck yeah homie! I was talking w justin earlier today, and was saying i think its awesome that people are really starting to try to push speeds to a whole new level. And i think that vendors are taking notice of the shift to bt speeds. While i want to have the fastest daily drievn speed record, my build has changed also, but nowhere to the level you're headed to. I also will be updating my thread within the next few days to announce a partnership with a vendor, and my current updated status.

Im excited for you Bryce. I always said of all Pu owners......you would be the one. You are in great hands with Justin all around homie, andheres to your build!

2014 is gonna be a hell of a year lol.

@Haltech; has been talking all sorts of smack about your build, so I hope you can put up the numbers he's claiming or he's in for a lot of flack! And then that means he's just gonna teabag you every time he sees you.

Lol, thanks. I know it's going to be a long jounrey filled with some bumps and struggles along the way, but that will make it so much more gratifying when it's all said and done.

@LumberJack;

First and foremost, good luck on the build, that looks like a hell of a parts list.

Secondly, what are you doing for suspension/tire/wheel setup? It's gotta be a damn good setup to get you into the 10's

Secondly, what are you doing for suspension/tire/wheel setup? It's gotta be a damn good setup to get you into the 10's
I'll either be running mickey thompson et streets and see what happens, or investing in a set of bogarts and some m&h slicks. I have full suspension now, but the rear springs may need to be swapped out to much stiffer springs to help squat and rebound when launching. Thankfully I've got some really good experience setting up suspension in a fwd track car. I appreciate the words and support.

Please post your tips up regarding FWD drag setup too, especially if you hook well.

Absolutely I will. Honestly, it's nothing crazy. Proper corner balancing with at least a 65/35 weight ratio over the front end. The more weight you can get over the tires the better. Also have less weight in ass end stops the car from bouncing hard on the launch.

Sweet looking build man! I am doing a pretty similar setup on my car and am located in oceanside. My car on the other hand wont be running for at least a few months between machine work and making custom parts everywhere.

If you call Eibach, they will make you a custom spring with what ever spring rate you want. They just need the specs of the coilspring from end to end. I had them make me some custom 1000lb rear springs for my old honda

What shocks do you have in the rear? Get something that is high quality and has good compression adjustability to prevent squat.

Stiffer springs also help but don't go crazy on the springs if you want to drive it daily.

Love seeing people go with these turbos for big power. The cpe manifold/precision turbo setup just flatout works.

The only thing that could keep you from that 650+ number is your fuel setup. With larger TBI injectors, you may have just enough, but it's pretty tough to calculate since you're still using a returnless, non boost-referenced fuel pressure setup.

As far as the 10's go, you should have it no problem if you have fwd drag experience already. I know you didn't mention the hoosier/fd wheel combo, but I was very surprised actually at how well those hooked at that power level with a decent burnout. Just food for thought, since it's a bolt-on, fairly cheap setup for us to run.

Yeah, I figured even with bigger injectors on the 6th port it may be tough, but Justin doesn't think it will cause too much of an issue. I've been debating this for quite some time. If it doesn't get me to the power level I want than new IM and full PI will be put on the car.

Yeah, I've made probably 600+ passes in a fwd car, 500+ of them are 10sec or faster, and I'd say a solid 300 of those 500 10sec or faster passes were 9.9x or faster. I really see this a huge benefit to making this happen. I've seen everyone use the hoosier/fd setup, but I would prefer to run a full slick if needed. Hell, who knows the hooisers if I go that route may be enough to get me there, only time will tell
