Did you order the Felpro gasket from Rock Auto by chance? Head bolts from Rock Auto?

I ask because a local ordered head bolts and head gasket from Rock Auto and the head bolts turned out to be garbage. The gasket worked fine. I'd recommend only getting head bolts from Mazda in one way or another.

OEM head bolts you say? Are you going to be using a factory K04 or a GTX28 frame turbo or a larger one? Because anything from GT/GTX30 up (and equivalents) can get you into head lifting issues both with the OEM or with the ARP2000 head bolts.

Not really true. That used to be the the general consensus, however when torqued properly OEM head bolts have been proven to handle quite a bit more power than thought possible back in the day.

I am using OEM head bolts on a GTX3076, a tad north of 500whp. 18k miles, no issues at all.

Both the bolts and gasket are from felpro and were purchased from amazon. I do wish I purchased the oem sets, but they weren't on prime. I trust that the felpro replacements will be adequate in providing similar quality.

And like stated above, the oems are tits. Pretty sure freek ran them on his pu. Never been a fan of arp across all platforms. Inconsistencies in manufacturing tend to lead to their demise.

On top of that, arps don't stretch as much as their oem counterparts. Bolt stretch allows for a "rubber band like" clamping force. Without it, you only rely on frictional forces to seal the surface.

Mazda OEM head bolts > ARP2ks all day long in the 500WHP/450WTQ range. Only possible exception might be if you pulled the cams after 2k miles and followed ARPs procedure and re-torqued the 2Ks. I am not aware of anyone going through this so we see some head lifting with the 2Ks.

I have around 20k miles on my setup with OEM bolts.

I would not trust the Felpro bolts since there is no data on their use in our application. If I had already fubared a motor in 2K miles I wouldn't take any chances...but to each his own.

Selling/parting it out.
Pulled the head and both the block/head is burnt in between cylinder 1 and 2.
The hard line fuel feed oring cracked and when I did a pull I lost fuel pressure. Caused a super lean condition for literally 3 seconds.

Gonna throw a stock engine in and sell the car.

Alright, after going through all my options, I've decided on what I plan on doing.

This Sunday, I will be picking up a stock (40k) long block to swap in. I will be selling the turbo setup (manifold, turbo, Dp adapter, lines, 4" intake). As long as the engine is in good shape, I will keep the tr1035, hpfp, Cobb ap, dp, ported + port meth intake, 3 port, turbo xs bov and 6 puck setup. I plan on just returning to "fully bolted". The setup was always reliable and had no issues walking most people. I will be moving to the east coast within summer of next year (new york, Virginia, New Hampshire, or a couple other states). I will need a car that is capable in the snow. I was going to just drive my 1970 tr6, but I will more than likely just keep it a toy.
