(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I have used several short shift kits in various cars over the years, and generally came away unimpressed. They usually sacrificed shift feel and mechanical smoothness in the name of ultimate reduction of throw. This ended up frustrating me over time, with too-notchy gates and clunky throws. Matt @ DM convinced me to give his shifter plate a shot, and I have to say I'm quite pleasantly surprised. It offers a significant reduction in throw, without turning the smooth shift action into something akin to crushing walnuts. It's a beautiful design, and works exactly as described. The plate itself installs in minutes, and is designed to fit positively on the fore-aft shift lever on the transmission. No slop is added at all. As a side note, no slop is removed either - this kit does not replace any of the bushings or cable ends that cause free-play. I figured I'd throw this review out as an example of how taking a sense of moderation into mind during the design and engineering of an upgrade can result in a better product. I also set up my roommate's DSLR during the install, to take pictures of the throw reduction. Here you can see the stock throw from 3rd to N to 4th: Here you can see the same pattern after the short shift plate was installed: I hope this gives people a better idea of the actual reduction of fore-aft throw. Percents don't mean as much as a true visual.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I'm afraid I didn't get video of the shifter throws or the install. I can probably get an animated GIF put together of those shifter pics, though.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Just installed my mofuggen GOLD short shifter plate. It's nice. Looks like a high quality piece. Install was super simple. The picture on the website should be enough as far instructions, but I used the JBR instructions as a guide. Driving Impressions: I don't have experience with other SSP but this seems to do as advertised. I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet but shifts are a little more crisp and the throw is noticeably shortened (not drastically). |
