Thumbs up OVER!!! $15605.97 in total collected! Mazdaspeedforums helping our NATOR family post-Hurricane Sandy

Hi everyone,

First and foremost, before I go into our family, there are millions affected above and beyond MSF. Please go to American Red Cross | Disaster Relief, CPR Certification, Donate Blood and make a donation to help the many who lost their home, jobs, businesses, and even family. The Red Cross has been there for Americans a long time, and make a donation to them. They have personally helped me in 2004 during Hurricane Francis and Jean here in FL.

Now to MSF.

We all know the hurricane has hit our NATOR friends and family hard. I know of 4 total that were hit, and cars totaled.

The couple days, MSF Moderator staff has been discussing how we can do the donation thing, without it being wasted, sent to those who might not need anything due to extra insurance, or maybe their financial situation is better than others. Here is the thing. I know you all might want to donate all $ to 1 or 2 people, but some members might need help more than others. This is where the decision-making gets to be tough, and people might not be happy. This is where it gets to not be a fun process, but it HAS to be done. We want to help our MSFers.

So with that. I have created a specific Paypal donation email address, and will be the MSF contact for distributing the funds to our members in need.

I currently have 4 total, but with power out in the area, we might be missing people. I know of really 1 member that could use some help with their family, as they have a baby and one on the way.

List:

1) @apena85 - no car damage, but home flooded (has an 11 month old girl) and a preggo wife, so some baby diapers and other baby things may be good. $500 sent
2) @kritz- lost his cars and house has flood damage. Sent $1000 and $3000 to help with emergency expenses and the deductible.
3) @8.5MS3 - some dents on roof of car he thinks he can probably get pulled no problem-No Donation requested. Made him VIP though!
4) @chintastic - lost his car and his house. Lost all his clothes. Sent $500. . Upside-down on the car, and we collected the $7298 difference. Sent $7298.26.
4) @kmac; lost all his tools, MS3, other car in flood. Sent $2500.
5) @SpeedSixxx; Lost car and has damaged built motor. Sent $1000.

Here is the Email address set up for PayPal donations. PLEASE CLICK HERE

Stage 1 is going to be collecting funds, and I will post a spreadsheet if I can figure out an easy way, and post a tally regularly of the doNATORS. If you donate, please include your MSF username in the message, or even "anon" to not be mentioned.

Stage 2 will be regular $ sent to the members in need.

Stage 3 is them getting back on their feet.

The notes I have right now of things I need, is Members, 1 and 4's contact info from anyone in the area. I think my priority is helping @apena85 get supplies for his family. @kritz has a pile of emails from me.

I know this post is a ramble, and a few days after the impact. we can nickkname this MSFEMA if you want. The only difference is, we are not sending trailers.

I am hoping for this to go smooth, and if anyone knows of additional MSF members in need, please PM me.

Oh, and if local, I know you guys are helping physically too, and thank you.

100% if this money will be distributed. I will not be getting a new Mustang or anything like that.

*******CLOTHES

For those wanting to help with clothes, please donate them to charities in the area, as they are highly needed. If anyone has info on other locations to drop off clothes, pm me.

1) Text REDCROSS to 90999 ( $10 donation)
2) Here is info I found for Staten Island: Donations of food, water, clothing, baby items, blankets, towels, and toiletries are needed. Most needed right now are work gloves, contractor-strength garbage bags, and supplies to help with cleanup. They can be dropped off at the following locations:

St. Christopher’s Church Community Center, 136 Midland Avenue 10306
Cespino-Russo Post, 200 McClean Avenue 10305
International Christian Center, 1501 Richmond Avenue 10314
St. Clare’s Church, 110 Nelson Avenue 10308
Project Hospitality, 100 Park Avenue 10302

Text message: Text the word STORM to 80888 to make a $10 donation. To confirm the donation, respond with the word “Yes.”
Phone: 800-SAL-ARMY (800-725-2769)

Jetty

Jetty is a NJ skate/surf clothing company that is based on the jersey shore. They are selling 20$ Ts that have a nice design for the Jersey relief effort and support of it.. ALL 20$ goes to the relief effort in NJ.

You will see the shirt link on their main page.

not a big deal if you dont want to put it up but i figured id throw it out there.
If you have a Cobb AP. ,and your car was flooded/washed away. Cobb will reflash it to factory, just send insurance stuff of the car to show it was a loss. 866-922-3059 is the Cobb Austin #. I spoke to Aaron. He said there may be a $40 labor fee, but will try to help. Just call and get an RMA number before sending it back.

Keep Calm, Chive On, everyone!

11/30/2012: We are in the last stage of donations. We now have a goal to reach. $1620. @chintastic's 1 year old car-flooded out, total loss. Insurance is giving him $7298 less than owed, so on top of losing his work tools, clothes, and his bottom floor of his house flooded, he has a $7298 debt for a car he was going to keep, but lost. I am going to keep this going as long as donations are being received. The goal is $7298 total, but that is a LOT of money, and I honestly cannot expect everyone to keep donating. but if you can help, please do. -MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

12/17/2012 8 AM. WE are DONE!
199 donators, 263 total donations. $15605.97 has been sent out to members, after a final push of $192.29 for the Chintastic down-payment collection.
