I lived in Georgia during Hurricane Andrew, my parents lived through the Terrible Tuesday tornado, and when I was in college we got many of the New Orleans evacuees from Houston during Ike (post-Katrina). I've seen first hand some of the destruction and I've seen how terrible insurance companies can treat people.

I am not gonna post totals for a while, I do not want to slow things down, but those in need will be getting taken care of by many Mazda Owners.

I just went through this thread and I really kind of lost it, the emotions that were bottled up just poured out. I'm at work now up in the Bronx and just on autopilot doing renovations on an old school that cut short my stocking out project. The forman is letting me go early today I'm a wreck but as i said there are peeps that are much worse off than me that puts things in perspective. I am very grateful brothers and sisters, and my wife just is blown away with this endeavour. Thank you is just a couple of words that don't come close to conveying how I feel. Great to know that you all have our backs!

Just logged on and I'm happy to see that one of my fellow Countrymen has already donated. Heading to PayPal right now and doing my bit. What pat is talking about is something that a few of the guys know about locally My wife and I have been fighting a law suit for the last 7 and just started the 8th year for an oil leak from my neighbor's heating oil tank and return line at a cost of 1.4 million dollars out of pocket. Basically the house needs to be torn down and the site needs to be excavated to a depth of 10 feet with shoring and de-watering so the contamination may be removed. Then back filled and helical pilings be installed and foundation poured to build the house on. We ran out of $$ a while ago after cleaning out savings,education, 401k and any retirement then borrowed money from family. Two months ago the lawyers were told the well is dry and now they are billing us.
We are fighting 2 insurance carriers and our neighbor, it plain old sucks nothing seems to be progressing although we have won every decision and appeal thus far. We actually have been trying to settle and have a stipulation for settlement but they have not honored any of the continence to move it along. The Judge is a pompous old coot that should have retired years ago!
We are in the process of going to the press as we can't take the BS anymore! So that is what Pat was talking about and one of the reasons I am so involved with this forum and platform, makes for an awesome outlet!

Please be careful in which manner you send the donations. When a ton of gift transactions happen, paypal has been known to lock that account.. making money collection and withdrawl extremely difficult.

They don't give two shits.. they do not want their fee's circumvented. If you see how paypal deals with fraud ( they don't have a fraud dept ), you will understand they do not care about special circumstances like these.

Sorry to hear that. I do some work with environmental law. (I am an environmental engineer). Mostly Phase 1 ESA for Innocent Land Owner defense under CERCLA.

What I know, these things are always drawn out and rough on everyone (except the insurance companies). Best of luck.

So, best be careful what is gifted. This whole situation sucks as is, the last thing we want, is paypal to make it even more difficult for these guys when we need to get gift cards out to them. Its bad enough we are unable to next day anything out to them... so we really need to rely on available local guys to help.
