Default Crank Pulley Tool

So working on my spare engine where everything seems to be impossible to get off, I came across a handy looking too for removing and torqueing the crank bolt. It holds on to the pulley so you can actually hold on to shit and seems like it would work nice.

Well, after looking around and seeing that they are stupid expensive there was no way I was going to buy one. But I work in a machine shop and I sure as hell can build one. @biochrome; just happened to have one he was willing to send me. And because he was such a nice guy I decided it would be nice to try and share the design with anyone who has the skills to make themselves (or others) one.

Attached is a Solidworks part file, a step file, Solidworks drawing, and a PDF drawing. If anyone needs it in any other format let me know and I will upload it.

This is all just measured with calipers on my desk, and I have not made one from the print I have drawn yet, but I don’t see any real issues with what this is.

Also, I was sent a timing plate that I will make a drawing for soon as well.

Mods feel free to move this thread if this isnt the best place for it.

Its just a simple model. Not much to it really, but anyone with the means should save a fair bit.

heh that was just a long post to say "subbed" really. I'm on a computer with solidworks but no way to pull a license. When I get back home next weekend (at the beach currently...listening to the waves on a porch in the nice morning air) I'll open it up since I'll be able to "pull a license"...

Just an update as my engine is finally going together soon. I ended up making one out of aluminum because its what I have around, and since I will be using my wrench on the bolt I went a different route to hold it. And this way anyone I loan it to doesn't need any other tools.

Yep indexing table made quick work of it. Hell, indicating the table in took longer than the cuts

My wife said I cant have a mill until I finish our back 2 car garage (because that lathe is in our 1 car garage) But I work at a machine shop, so I have access to mills and everything I need.

keep it alive brother, most of the US is busy selling hamburgers to each other.

I keep the results of that lifestyle alive a few extra months at the end of the ride.

You, actually do something useful

Since I'm buzzed now.

Next time you're at work, blow off the table, toss a standard vise on there, slide the tnuts under it and snug

bump it with your small brass hammer ( i know you have one)

step back, eye it tap it, eye it.

when its square, check it.

I was always under 5, usually 2

sick, right?

Haha the fastest way is give it to the cnc operators. That's what I usually do.

@maisonvi; Any chance you were able to get the solid model of the cam holder? I'm having trouble spending the money on the cam and TDC tool when I have perfectly capable CNC operators who can make it out of scrap. Also if it's no problem, if you have the dimensions for the TDC tool I'd be happy to run a bunch of them and hand them out for $5~$10 to members here.

yea one of these for a sane price would be nice... any chacne you can save that solid works drawing as an stl?

or if it isn't too much trouble just give me the measure of the 3 recesses I assume they are same size and at 120 degree offset in angle? I mean honestly how hard could it be to cut 3 notches in a pipe(cmon dremel dimond cutting wheel I believe in you!) and then drill a hole in it to stich a breaker bar into...

id prolly still buy the tool tho, if it was available for a saner price
