Turbo clipping

Had anyone ever had their turbo rebuilt, turbo wheel clipped and rebalanced? How did you like the results?

Yes, not worth it unless your competing in a turbo limited class.
Otherwise, get a bigger turbo.

1. Generally you clip a turbo that has a 'too small' turbine housing(to increase flow at higher RPMs), in our case we have a 'too small turbo'(which is technically another reason people clip, but it doesnt apply here and is too difficult to explain without a book explanation of exhaust flow and engine rmp ramp up)
2. Our K04 compressor is already easily maxed out, so the high rpm flow wont help much. A good candidate would still have usable boost in the upper RPMs, ours just putters out and creates a valve bbq.
3. Add to that the CHRA is a crappy design anyways.

That being said if you upgraded the thrust bearing, bored out the compressor side and used a bigger wheel I could see clipping being of use. I know a few guys many years ago played with modifying the stocker. I got half way down that road end of last year and decided it just wasnt worth the investment when for 100-200 more I could get a proper sized BNR or CS turbo. Only way it would make sense in my book is if you have a buddy that can do the labor for free(clip, bore, balance). Then you'd only be in it for about $150 for the new comp wheel and rebuilt parts.
